Mnandi: My latest Obsession

hehe ... just got a new one ... nothing too special (well, they all are special), wood and S35VN ... but a color / grain that I have been searching for a long time ...

will post pictures when it gets here.

Did you get the Honduran that just popped up? I passed because I already have the pair, but the grain on that one is stunning.

Nope. The new family member is not particularly exotic or hard to get. I was just waiting for a specific grain pattern and just found it (it took a long while to show up though). I better not build it up too much, otherwise it is going to be anticlimactic.

Ladies and Gents, there's a fine mammoth/raindrop in the exchange right now. I came so close to starting down this road, my love for UG's barely won out in the end.

I was just looking at these pics again, and just realized something. This is the only Mnandi I've ever seen where the inlay is made from 2 pieces of wood. That's interesting.

It may appear that way, but it isn't. It's the same on both sides, and there's a faint grain continuance across the demarcation line. Don't know what in nature caused this, but it's not two separate pieces. I initially thought the same thing until i inspected further.

For real? Wow, it really had me fooled. Can I see more pics of the front side? That's cool that the wood can change like that.

Poor thing sat there a day unsold, so I had to give it a home.

Well, I am glad it went to a good, mnandi-loving home! Actually, I was looking at it even before that girl with (way) too many knives gave us the heads up! ;) But ..... the almighty dollar only stretches so far and it was between this and a Thuens Prinsloo folder. I opted the the Prinsloo.

Thank you dinokay. I think she's going to match my small Seb. I won't know for certain until I see her in person.

Thank you, I will adore it. Would love to see that Prinsloo.

I have no doubts you will! The Prinsloo should be here in a day or so. Will get you a pic or two. This is bitter sweet for me. The first one I was considering was literally snatched from my grubby "buy" button-pushing finger one day before it was ready to push! Rating the two, this one would have definitely been my second choice, only because of the colors in the scales.

Lisa, you just don't know how close I came. I was ready to click the 'pay now' button when I talked myself out of that one. I'm glad you got it, it'll be happy with all it's friends.

What a great score Lisa. I was debating it when it was initially available at the online dealer not long ago, but decided against it for whatever reason. It is gorgeous!

Thank you masterserg! I think I saw it there too, but I have to pay tax since they're in Calif. and that adds up on an item like this.

This one languished on the exchange...

For a whole 4 minutes...

Only because I type slowly... :p
