This may be a difficult decision, some of my very best are not damascus. Jigged rosewood, both of my sweet box elders, and my two latest cracked mammoth bark. I used to have a strong preference for the damascus but it has grown weaker, and now I just prefer unique inlays with lots of character.
I agree with this ... and sometimes, just plain old S35VN looks great. SOME (not all) of the stainless DT damascus looks a little dull (the pattern and art of it are still great and beautiful but the contrast is just not there ... sometimes) .... If we were talking coated or high carbon it would be a different story. To me, the character and uniqueness of the inlay is far more important than a run of the mill damascus blade ... so to speak ... I know "run of the mill" and "damascus" should not go in the same sentence.
Please don't flame me ... it is just my opinion and I think what WH (for example) does with damascus is more interesting. I also understand that CRK's damascus is intended for use, hence the lack of coating or high carbon mixes (what's the right word?) which can scratch, peel off or stain.
