Hey fellas - I must say this is still a work in progress but here are some pics. I got the idea from that TOPS knife that Joezilla designed.

It's the SHANGO notch :thumbup:

I haven't snapped any pics with the handle back on but I did put the handle back on and play around with a firesteel. I still need to do a bit of filing to get it right but I like it so far.

I need to figure out a way to make it look a little better. I kind of messed up a bit and took too much coating off the back edge so I may strip the entire thing now. Not sure yet.

I used a dremel tool.

The half round notch on top helps to direct the shavings down and then striking with the back of the notch will shower sparks. I don't carry my sheath on my belt, but in my front pocket so it is pretty convenient for me to strike with the sheath on.

Check out the pics and let me know your thoughts. Like I said - I still need to clean it up a bit.

Nice. What did you use to make the notch. I will would be interested in doing something like that to my rc-3
 
I started out by using a hand round file but it was moving too much so I switched to a Dremel tool with a tapered grinding stone. I started at a slow speed then found it was much easier to control at a higher RPM. I used a flat, round stone on the back which is way I eneded up taking off too much coating. In hindsight I should have hand filed the back to get some of the coating off.
 
Nice mod. Look great! You'll need to update us after you use it some to let us know how well it works.
 
Thanks fellas - it's working ok so far. I'll be messing around more with it this weekend when I get some more time to play.
 
I like the idea but for me I'd put it on the spine about 2" from the tip. having it on the pommel I can see myself getting stabbed while striking my ferro....
 
Great Idea! Can You do a RC-4? I carry a stiker with my Rc-4 and Rc-5 on paracord But like the idea Thanks!

I'm not really sure, I'd assume it does but wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. The fact of the matter is if something went wrong with my knife and I thought it could be attributed to me modding the pomel then I wouldn't even think of sending it in for warrant work.

I use it as a striker with the sheath on.

It works ok for now until I get used to it. After I get the technique down pat I'll be a wiz with hit. I'll try and take some videos.

I have to admit it was Joe's idea on that TOPS knife, I just made it work for me. I like it so far. I'll be posting a more in depth review after I've had a chance to use it some more.
 
that came out great man.. nice mod...:thumbup: my TOPS SHANGO has one of those, i likeit a lot...:)
 
Looks good. It looks like it might be a bit unwieldy though, but let us know how it goes anyway, might have to :foot:
