Modern Traditionals....;)

That green alox is just so snazzy!

I agree! I just wish you could get the Cadet with the sheepfoot from the Electrician instead of the can opener.

What we need is a custom shop for alox SAKs. Any combo of blades/tools/colors you want.

Victor you can get the new version of this at william sonoma for a total undervalued price. Just look it up as I can't put in a link. I handled it and it was top notch, if it said Al Mar, on it you'd swear the micarta, VG10 blade, perfect grind, fit and finish would make it a $120 knife. It's branded a KAI, Gentlemen's lockback.

Mamba, can you expound on that beauicty? Model #, when it was DC'd, etc ?

I honestly can't decide if this is a traditional or modern or what. But it arrived today, so of course I wanted to post a pic on BladeForums :). Helle Skala, Sandvik 12c27 steel with cocobolo:

I found it but it says made in China. I thought the 1993-2 was japan with VG-10?

Handsome knife. Congrats!

Seems like the Fallkniven U1 should make the cut as a "modern" traditional:
> slipjoint
> no thumb stud
> no pocket clip
> no "assisted" opening mechanisms or mechanical design elements
> frame and spring pinned rather than screwed together (my criteria)
> handle material that is not integral with the frame, unless it is a liner less pattern from the get-go. (also one of my criteria)

I went this direction because the GEC #25 with a drop point is "rare as hens teeth" and the smaller Buck lock backs just don't appeal to me. As advertised - this sharpened up well ... but, it was razor sharp right out of the box.

Blade is 60+ HRC, frame is 420HC, pull is about a "6", great walk and talk, covers are very thin so the overall width of this folder is no thicker than a GEC Calf Roper. Some might be put off by its handle/frame height (?) but this rides in the front pocket nicely and the extra bit of handle gives you the feeling that you've got a good grip when cutting. The blade steel is laminated so the cutting edge steel is demarcated by a line which is something I'm getting used to.

I would say this is a modern traditional. I have found surprisingly little discussion of this knife (merchants picture).

It is a barely modified copy of a LoneWolf Loveless design made by Fantoni. Loveless designed a folder based upon his City Knife pattern, and LoneWolf had it made by Fantoni using a steel especially made for the knife.

I love the crkt swindle. It has the blade shape and thickness(or lack there of) of a swayback but with a linerlock and a pocket clip on the side. To me it looks like what crk would make if they did sway backs. they are also affordable to almost everyone.

Nice! Boker are coming out with some nice traditional type patterns at the moment. This one caught my eye...
