Modern Traditionals....;)

David, does that one also have a screw driver in the butt? That would be extra useful.

And I always liked a copperhead bolster.

Yes, that's a phillips screwdriver (I just edited my post to include that info). I picked up one of these years ago, and it's typical of his quality. Very solid, hefty knife.

Sweet, love the covers on your PK70 Sam! You've described the action on mine exactly, the lockup when open is very secure and opens with a satisfying 'click'.

Thanks zippofan, here's the same knife in its Sunday best:)

The above IS a very nice knife but I have to say I baulk at the idea of torqx screws on the handle...if it were pins be another matter:D

When I think of modern traditionals, I tend to think of this guy...

Mercator K55K

With over 140 years of history, I'd say it's earned a 'traditional' status and yet has more of a modern flavour, imo...*

I guess I have a couple that would fall into the Modern Traditional category.

Ken Coats Sheepsfoot Jack with black linen micarta and ATS-34:

Those Mercator's are real cheap. How good are they?

Too soon for me to speak from experience. I added it on to another order, just for the novelty/historical factor, with no real intention of carrying it. But I must admit I was surprised by how solid the K55K feels (quite a brilliant design in its simplicity) and it's actually fairly comfortable in hand for such a slim knife. And, man, does it ever get wicked sharp after a few licks on the stones! So far, I'd say the K55K ranks up there with Opinel and the Cognet Douk Douk...

Heinrich Böker, Solingen with micarta scales and Trapper pattern... Limited edition 500 pieces...

Thanks Brett - it´s an anniversary knife Böker sold some years ago for their factory they run the US. There were many other knives made with those micarta scales, but the Trapper had the very most appeal of this series to me at that time.

The shield of the Bökers is nice looking :)

I read about someone's dream knife somewhere and one fellow's post described a trapper; since the two blades are pretty close to the same, why not make the two blades in different types of steel? One for edge retention and one designed to get silly sharp? I haven't stopped thinking about this since I read it. Does it exist? If it does, why has no one posted it in this thread yet? ;)

I know the pocket clip is a no, but I feel the Mnandi needs to be on this thread. I carry it every day and would say it is an amazing example of a modern traditional knife leaning towards the modern side.

I think the Mnandi is a great knife too. I carry one now and then. The clip makes it a no no here. :)
