Modified Busse pic and discussion thread

Nice ones! I think the sarge 7 is one of the most under appreciated Busses, fabulous knife. The Pork Shank is my favorite smallish Busse, but I have occasionally also felt the handle was a hair long, so excellent mod and well done.

My KDSH that got the square blunt spike ground into a semi tanto. I was inspired my the tip of the spike on RMJ Hawks.

You can see the top of the spike is slightly blunted and bent to one side here. That's from the testing on the fresh ground spike. Steve and I were hacking up a propane bottle and the spike hit the most solid part where the threads are and as the bottle spun from impact it folded the tip. Didn't break it though ;)

What a ka-winky-dink Tyrade!
Your KDSH spike regrind inspired mine!

My post below😎

Finally traded for a KDSH, this particular one started out Mossy Green with Green liners and Bruiser G10.

First Bussekin l I've experienced with G10 and all I can say is ouch, everything I keep has to be a user and that Bruiser held up to its name.

After I stripped and sanded down with 120 grit I etched the entire hawk save for the spike, edge, and Swamp Rat logo.
After some #00 steel wool with Mothers mag polish I got a great working finish.

So far this hawk has gotten more "abuse" than any of the knives I've owned, and it's stood up to it all with flying colors.
I chopped a caulk gun in half along with destroying a sheet metal tray from my grills inches a few holes in a street sign to test penetration.

The bottom edge of the spike is almost sharp and as you twist it out of media like wood it tears and cuts on its way out, can't imagine what it would do to something breathing.

I wrapped the handle with Wilson Racquet grip tape and called it good.

Tennis racquet tape, made to replace/improve the grip on the handle.
It's super soft, sticks well, and serves the purpose.

^^^ nice job on the PS! I likes it!!

Thanks guys. I agree on the SARGE and had a few but settled on just the satin/black canvas one. I kinda want a PS with a scaled down SAR series handle, proportional to the blade height. Kind of like a shrunken SARGE7. It would have to come from the shop though, not something I could mod int one.

Interesting... I like my KDSH but the micarta on mine is sharp. I could sand the edges down but I've been thinking a wrap of some kind might work better.

If mine had micarta I would hand shape the scales with sandpaper for sure, that blue black g10 is just too pretty to destroy.... For now. I may do a breavis and remove the scales to swap for something DIY, I could see come nice, oblong handles serving it well.
I've also thought of a leather wrap, but that will wait until I decide how to leave the finish once and for all.

THose modified KDSH spikes are like the business end of an ice axe - also shaped to penetrate hard surfaces.

Thanks, fellas!

Its kind of addicting and it just feels right. Cant let that beautiful INFI suffocate..needs to breath...feels more "alive" in hand, the steel even sounds better. (if that makes any sense)

more air = more horsepower. (makes no sense whatsoever)

Gonna try some SR101 next.

Any difference in decarb, +/- ..on SR101 as compared to INFI?

In my experience, the decarb on SR can be a little tougher to remove, but the steel strips great and can be finished awesomely.

I'll take that left over bruiser off of your hands..... I need bruiser scales for a hawk anyway... Money could be involved....

I had already planned on offering it to you!
As soon as I'm able to get my drill press set up it shouldn't be long before I'm able to source some nice tan micarta and go to work, as soon as I get the bruisers off I can send them your way.

As far as payment goes, I'd consider it a GAW that you just won, simply by asking.
From piglet to piglet I know how you love your bruisers.

I'll most likely take them off sooner rather than later so I can test fit and maybe try a cord wrap over this soft grip tape.
