Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Sorry Keith, but I no longer have the knife, and I delete photos from Photobucket when they're gone.
Maybe the new owner will see this and post some pics back up.

1993 Case 71094 medium toothpick in gassed out abalone swirl celluloid. The factory edge was still intact but the

Rehandled in autumn sunset bone.

This one was my first attempt at putting in a shield. Not too terrible of a job considering I freehanded it with a Dremel.

I have been building quite a few lockbacks from a pile of Schrade factory closing parts I found a great source for. I have a small stash of blades, and found only one that was not Schrade+, but the good old fashioned Schrade carbon steel. I decided it had to have a special, one of a kind treatment, so I decided to make the liners and bolsters out of copper, and scale it in Argentinian Lignum Vitae (Verawood).

I decided on this combination because I knew the wood would patina to a nice green over time, as would the copper. I thought that would look really good together.

I am not sure what kind of sorcery went into making the high carbon blades at Schrade, but whatever it is leads to blades that will take the most wicked sharp edge of just about any steel anywhere. I sharpened this blade from butterknife dull (the factory blades are not sharpened as they come) to a razor sharp edge, and accidentally bumped it with the knuckle of my thumb, and sliced it open.

I have seen knives with copper bolsters, but never with copper liners until I made this.

Wow that is beautiful Mark!! Did you rat tail the factory Case bolsters or did you make new bolsters?

Thanks Vita and Barry!

jk I filed the original bolsters myself when I tore down the knife.

Thanks for the compliments

You really kicked that Case up several notches, Mark!:thumbup: Those 2 handles don't even come close to comparing.
