Modified tanto - kabar nailed it.

Nah just tell her it had been back ordered and was already in the mail when he told her that....
'Oh this? Yeah I've been waiting on it since August, it finally came in!'

(Please don't ask if I paid in August, please don't ask if I paid in August, please don't ask if I paid in August...)

This place is very pic unfriendly. Still don't know how to do a pic of a knife that's still on the way. Hard choice between the D2 extreme straight edge and the modified tanto. The tanto was the one that won out for now that is.

Edicus: To avoid unnecessary clickity click click bait I, I Edicus: this. It suppose to come in today and crazily waiting for it to arrive!

Edicus TWO: Got it! Its a very nice knife!

Well compared to the BK5 the Modified-Tanto they are similar but look like different critters. They both have a slight curve to the blade, but the BK5 has a bit more curve to it. The "Speed Spine" on the two knives has the 1266 start a little more up the spine than the BK5 does. (Speed spine, the thinned out spine/swedge on back of the spine). The blade height is taller on the BK5 making the more metal in the blade. The 1266 has what looks like the whole blade is made to make the knife stronger and stiffer for when thrusting it the 1266. The tip and the rest of the blade seems to be that it was made for thrusting and piercing than the BK5. But I can see where this knife will come in handy for large critter cutting season with the 1266's smaller better piercing profile and good cutting edge. Also it looks like it can serve as a back up kitchen knife, where the BK5 seems to fit in the kitchen where the kitchenite people like to claim it as their own.

I could not find a thread in this subforum in the first 3 pages and did not want to post this in general.

Mine just arrived and it is a truly stunning blade, the grinds are aesthetically a thing of beauty.

Centre of balance is in the handle so feels very nimble. I have heard the sheath will dull the blade, would not be surprised.

I can't believe there is not more buzz about this knife, kabar you absolutely have to do a presentation version of this knife.. I don't consider myself a collector but I would start if there was an showcase model of this knife.

I don't believe many used the original design as a general bushcraft or survival knife, this design is even less suited for those tasks. Take one look at the profile and it's pretty clear what it's purpose is.

I will be ordering a second one asap to mod: sharpen the swedge, possible reshape of the guard, mod the handle.

Does anyone have pictures of how they attach the extra dangler option on the sheath, I can't work out what the intended method would look like.

I was saving for a recon 1 in 3v but this knife blows that plan apart.

Great job kabar, imo the nicest production blade on the market in its category and just a fine looking and well made knife in general.

Which one do you like so much ?

You didn't tell which knife ??
Modified tanto is a shape of the blade only
Number of your dream Kabar will help :^D
The name of the kabar model 1266 is the "modified tanto".
That IS the knife this thread is about.

OK
Funny thing is that knife isn't modified tanto
Or even a tanto :^)))
Just a made name only

That's modified tanto :

It is a Tanto, Japanese/traditional style Tanto, modified to US style Tanto.

Wow, awesome blade!

Traditional Japanese tanto is
broken katana !!
Sorry
Knife geeks arguing about correctness of naming blade profiles - that's a first for BF.

You wanted to know what knife the thread was about you were given the name name from the manufacturer, anything else you would like to discuss about the knife?

I didn't bought
Probably because of the name :^D

Anyway plenty of Kabars here, no space for any more yet
Thanks for an invitation

Mine still does its work fine from time to time. Very handy in the hand, and its been invited to the next big critter cutting season.

For a fighting knife, think I'd prefer it over my 1211 and my "EXTREMES OF Da Two!" steel. Its lighter and more and handleable for slashyable and stabbyable, for give the uber tactical-cool terms there.
