Mora Robust High Q shots

Someone needs to do a video of this knife in use (food prep, feather sticks, cutting cardboard, cutting rope, maybe battening for small kindling nothing un reasonable) but since it is the robust some people like to baton and it would be nice to see how it does

I've never understood the fascination with Mora knives. I had two of them, used them mainly in the kitchen and they both developed a few spots where the edge rolled.

That issue is often on account of the factory edge being just slightly overheated, meaning the hardness is drawn out of the very edge. A couple of resharpenings and the problem almost always disappears.

I had the same issues and did not like Moras for a very long time. The answer for me was putting a micro bevel on them. It doesn't diminish the cutting ability, and adds a way longer life to my edges.

Just got some in on Saturday and just need to get 'em up on the site. They're brutish by Mora standards! :D

I still say a 510 with the Robust blade would be the Mora to beat all! Maybe I'll start an email campaign to Mora to bug them about that :D

I just got mine yesterday. I have to admit, I wasn't sure if I would like the Grey scheme looking at photos online, but in person I'm really digging it... it's my second mora and I played with it a little today. Can't wait to start seeing test review popping up... it cuts almost as well as my #612 and if that thicker spine really does help it take abuse better it will probably be my primary carry out in the woods.

True dat. It just topped my list for my monthly 'cheap' knife purchase. Of course I use cheap to describe price not quality.

Can you afford not to get one?! :D

One other thing I forgot to snap a pic of, it comes with the new Mora sheath with a button on the front where you can attach another Mora sheath. I tested it out and don't know that I will use that feature, but it's kind of interesting.

My best magnet-checking shows it to have a 3/4 tang. I always put microbevels on Moras--holds an edge longer and makes touch ups much faster.

I'm pretty sure that Stormtrooper survival kits come with one. :D

Just got mine up on the site. Indeed--under $15! Gotta love it. I bet you a chisel knife would make a great model to piggyback on the sheath.

Can I get feedback

If any of the Mora knives fail, it will be the handle of the stick tang
The force of repeated batoning breaking the handle
I have never heard on these boards of a Mora breaking at the blade or the tang breaking

So what do I get from a thicker knife, if thickness is not my failure?

That and it's more resistant to lateral strain so you can do light prying with it. The blade is also more rigid. To my mind the biggest advantage most folks will get from it, though, will be the larger handle (for folks with big hands, of which I'm not one) and the piggyback sheath.

I have never had an issue with any Mora knife even with "thin" blades. But if I had to bet where such a failure would take place I would also pick the handle/blade connection...really wish moras had true full tangs.

I also wish (from pictures) that the Robust had the same handle as the companion.

None the less I just placed an order with FortyTwoBlades, best price I have seen so far.

On a side note, anyone have both the Robust and the Hultafors Gk? How do they compare?

Wondering if they would make one in stainless as well. Would be nice in the wet, anyway getting this one first :)

On the contrary all of the pictures I've seen of broken moras shows the blade broken at or around the logo roll mark, about an inch forward of the handle. This surprised me because I would have thought the tang would have been the weakest part. Interestingly, the logo on my robust is printed on.
