More Emerson Disappointment...

Bummer, I can feel your pain. I had a similar issue in the past with a different maker.

I am glad to see Emerson make it right and do so in a stand up way.

Wow, fell off the tracks here.

We all are in agreement that a new knife shouldn't arrive like that regardless of price point.

Eki took care of it to the op by giving him a refund. They would have easily repaired it.

Does it suck, YES but it happens. Nothing will be perfect all the time.

I love when it when someone needs to get that last word in. Like this was some sort of competition. Our knives are made in batches. Those batches are usual all sold relatively quickly. We don't skimp on quality to get more knives out of the door. Maybe you should talk to the other knife companies that make theirs in China.

I think it is very brave of companies to open themselves up to the jury of public opinion on these forums and they should be commended for it. I have my own company we have a very high rate of satisfaction but because we use humans not robots, things do go wrong from time to time. We make mistakes in our company as every company does and as the owner I feel every mistake personally and our people do too. We do our best to learn from our mistakes, make it right and move forward better because of the knowledge we gained. Yes there was an error here, no the item shouldn't have gone out the door but it did, and given the chance I'm sure they would have gone overboard to make it right. What else can they do?

The thing with forums is that things get exaggerated, peoples opinions are formed and swayed, one mistake can be multiplied a hundred fold just from one post. Anyway, I don't mean to get up on a soapbox here, I feel bad for the OP I wouldn't thrilled if it happened to me, none of us would but I also feel it is better to give someone the opportunity to fix the problem before posting. Just my opinion.

Precisely how I feel DRK, I too am a business owner and want to fix the inevitable errors that unfortunately slip out.

I will say I've experienced EKI, Spyderco, Benchmade and Case customer service and EKI's was hands down the best. That and EKI trusts their customers to actually maintain their knives.

Dealing with people sucks, and it has go worst the longer I live. As my almost 94 y/o father said to me many times before his recent death. I no longer recognize the country I grew up in, America and its people have changed.

My father was a World War II Merchant Marine Veteran serving in in all war zones, and let say he had a whole lot of life experence in those almost 94 years.

EKI trusts their customers to actually maintain their knives.

This is the main reason that I sold most of my other EDC knives and now use nothing but Emerson and ZT. Also have a Sebenza in the mail, the fact that they don't discourage users from disassembly was a huge factor in my decision to finally buy one.

I also wouldn't own a car if changing my own oil voided the warranty.

Well, although it was unfortunate you had to travel through the avenues you that you did... at least EKI stood up to their reputation and you received or are receiving a refund. Mistakes happen all of the time, most are unfounded but yours was legitimate and EKI stepped up and did the right thing. So cheers, you didn't get stuck with a lemon of a knife and cheers to EKI for being a proper company and doing what was right.
Happy Holidays Everyone! Cheers!

Yep.^ An HD7 is the only Emerson that I now carry.
My Jungle Commander and CQC7B are back-up.

So many thoughts shared a lot better than I am able.
Reminds me of a newer saying, " Don't e-mail angry."
None of this will stop me from some day owning an Emerson.

Happy Holidays.

I have a dozen or so Emersons ranging from the Benchmade collaborations up to an A100. Only one I had any problem with was a Raven somewhere
back in the '90's and EKI took care of it free of charge.
I have no reason to not buy another EKI product. Any problem will be remedied to my satisfaction.

I have 12 Emerson's of various ilk. One being a HD-7. I too had a lock issue. I contacted them, sent it in, and in less than 2 weeks came back perfect; and has been since then. This particular knife has been used very, very hard in the time I have had it. I mean real hard. It even with the lock issue the blade was not loose or unusable. I personally have had nothing but great experiences in my dealing with EKI for the past 8 years. If given the chance, they will do everything possible to make their customers satisfied. Your knife needed some attention, there is no doubt about it. I just personally speaking, my opinion, for what it is worth, would of given them a chance to make it right, before posting. You did get your money back, so EKI were professional and maintain responsibility for their product. I have many very nice custom knives, production knives too, from nearly every major and minor maker. But more times than not, a Emerson is in my pocket. Merry Christmas and happy new years!!

Dust- Yes, really. I bought my HD7 used. The former owner used it for eight years. I sent er to EKI for a sharpening and a lock tune-up and she's good to go.
The frame-locks are so nice nice. They are a little slimmer that the liner-locks and are a simpler, yet strong design.

I wouldn't know about their CS. Of all the models I've owned, I have never used it. My 7 is stuck at 50% for the past 20 years. I have spoken to them on the phone, they make you feel like family.
