More Emerson Disappointment...

I wouldn't know about their CS. Of all the models I've owned, I have never used it. My 7 is stuck at 50% for the past 20 years. I have spoken to them on the phone, they make you feel like family.

A 20 year old 7! I would like to see a pic of that one.

I was finished with Emersons after I took my first one apart. Almost every screw was stripped and the tolerances were so loose it was impossible to re assemble with proper blade centering and lockup. I called emerson and they said their knives are "not designed to be disassembled". If they cut all prices on their knives by 50% I might consider picking a few up. Those blade shapes/grinds are purty...

Emerson are specifically designed to be taken apart, thats why they were designed with phillips and flat head screws. I doubt anybody in the Emerson shop ever said that.

Of course almost all knives are "designed to be disassembled". Later in the conversation the representative I was speaking with stated again they they "do not recommend taking them apart". Which is what I think she meant to say the first time.

From Emerson's web site in the FAQ section: "You can oil the blade and the pivot area from time to time with any good, light oil such as WD-40. If the knife becomes encrusted with dirt or sand, it can be completely disassembled and cleaned out thoroughly. Cleaning Light Colored Handles: Dish soap and water or Simple Green with a toothbrush. If you take your knife apart we do recommend that you use a small drop (the size of a pinhead) Low or Medium strength LocTite on the threads of the pivot screw."

Looks to me like Emerson is OK with ELU disassembly when necessary.

Connor, try using the proper size bit next time.

Jeez this thread is gonna give me an aneurysm

That was the latest super secure lock face you got there. How lucky you are! you won't ever have it slip on you.
