More Tracker / WSK discussion - Hunted

There many differences in the TRACKER knives as they evolved over the years. I had made seven different standard models that were advertized. These varied in length, blade & handle shape. By far, the most popular of my designs which remains to this day, is my "C" model TRACKER. Although the newer versions I began producing again in 2003 were made from the exact pattern I used for "the Hunted" TRACKER knife, there are some significant improvements made to the newer (post 2003) model "C". As seen from the initial pictures posted, the knife I made for "the Hunted" was the older "C" model. These can be distinguished by the obvious hollow ground drawknife edge & non-tapered tang. Most were also boldly stamped with the "TRACKER"
trademark on the left side of the blade. The photo posted of my newer TRACKER/WSK version is from the same pattern but has been improved with a much stronger flat ground drawknife edge. A fully tapered tang was also added to reduce unwanted weight & re-destribute balance to increase performance & improve feel. The newer versions were also differentially hardened & tempered as compared to the earlier knives as used for "the Hunted" which were hardened & tempered evenly over the whole blade.

Good to see you around David.....I still look at my tracker you made every time I need inspiration to keep making knives.
I made my first knife wating for my tracker about 2 about years ago.....
Just saying....thanks!

Mr. Beck, I have been trying to contact you by email, but it seems like I have an old address ? I did get a reply from you a while ago, but unfortunately I lost the record. Since you are not making the older version of model C tracker knife, I want to ask you personally about the spec of the knife. Please email me at kanagawa0410@yahoo.co.jp I hope you get well soon.

Dave, it's good to see you back on the forum. Love your work and hope you get your medical problems under control. I don't live that far from you. I'm in Md. just below Fawn Grove, Pa. on the Mason Dixon line.

I know this is kind of off topic, but do any of you have a Tom Brown William Henry Quest knife? Just wondering what your thoughts and opinions were on that as well.
Thanks.

Jason

Dave Beck,

I found these photos of a knife I believe you made, I think its called the Wolverine knife. If you feeling better and starting to make knives again, I would be very interested in a knive like this. Please email me if your interested in making a blade like this.

So are the Linger and Beck WSK's essentially identical? If not, how are they different? I will not ask which one is "better".

Thanks for the input.

Both Knifesmith are "custom makers" and their knives are handcrafted, so each one is away slightly different. But to answer your question they are very similar.

Gary,
Beck is no longer making the WSK, but there are other makers out there that make a similar knife. I dont think Lingers is diferentially hardened like Becks and the handle is shaped differently. Also, the profile is a little different but thats because there both handmade....2 people sketching similar knives. Thats the fun :)

Thank you for the info. I'll keep looking. I understand that the TOPS are inferior to the customs. Does anyone know of anyone making one that is differntially hardened?

Thank again,
Gary

Roger played around with my WSK and here is how he got the Blade Hardness: Draw Knife: 59 HRc, Hatchet: 58 HRc

Maybe I'll just stick with my Busse Battle Mistress and my Victorinox Backpacker. Of course I also have a Martin Kruse that he made for me right before he died. Oh the choices.....
