Mosaic Damascus

I think there is a benefit in refering to end grain pattern welded steel as mosaic. I don't think it matters how you develop the pattern, as long as the end grain is displayed on the side of the finished billet. Thank you Ed

I am a big fan of all the steel makers in this thread. And for now I am still going to call my damascus Mosaic . And I see no harm in doing so. if you are in control of the pattern then it is not random. And should not be called random pattern. For me I think that the feather pattern is a mosaic. To much fun to not join in.

I don't have much to add here. I love all kinds if its done well.

To me its straight forward. Mosaic refers to tiles which are welded together to form a mosaic pattern.

And most other steel is pattern welded. There is a clear PATTERN manipulated into the steel and welded down. This is refering to twisting, ladder pattern, texas wind, dogstar, turkish etc.... you name it.

They didn't start with tiles that were pieced together but rather manipulated as a whole.

Am I wrong?
