Mossberg Juct In Case shotgun

Before picking up my 870 Express I seriously considered the Mossburg J.I.C.
It was Remington's reputation, input from several users and a buddy who manages the gun counter at a local sporting store that finally convinced me otherwise.
I am glad I went with the 870. I got the 18" barrel with the 2 shot mag extension.

Bet it sold well after No Country For Old Men came out .

There are shotgun suppressors, but not like the one in that movie. They are very big and still quite noisy. In some european countries you have to use a suppressor when hunting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j5P0LXemAA

We both used the factory tubes the first round & Winchester Supreme Turkey loads & then I have a Hastings Turkey tube & he had a Undertaker Turkey tube & used the same loads . The Mossburg still on top
Don't get me wrong I really like the Xpress better, it is a ver well made gun.
I'm just saying that for the money a mossburg is

Oh I understand completely. I'm not givving the nod to one over the other. I just had some paterning problems with my 870. Not so much with game and turkey loads but with the home defence 00 Buck loads.

I have an 18" barrel w/fixed choke and had to go through several brands of ammo to find the best patern. Turned out to be Reduced Recoil from Hornady (TAP). At 30' (absolute maximum straight line distance in my house) they paterned amazing.

Cost me a bit on ammo but it was worth the coin to find the right rounds for my shotgun.

 on the Winchester Supreme Turkey. Great rounds.

Me personally, I'd prefer the M590 and one of their duck guns.

OT: I went duck hunting yesterday and missed every last one of those damn birds. First time duck hunting. It's not as easy as on TV! Still had a bunch of fun though.

Because it would limit sales due to folding stock being verboten in some communist states/communities.

Folding stocks for pump shotguns are no more banned than pistol grip shotguns.

My guess is that even folding stocks tend to be more bulky if the carrying system is a tube. Also factor in that the JIC is not likely to ever be used as truly intended.

Those Knoxx pistol grips are spring loaded in such a way that they do absorb a lot of recoil. They make pistol grip-only firing tolerable. On the other hand, shooting one of these one-handed like a pistol still isn't really all that practical unless it's a very shortened AOW gun.

One thing that might be a practical aiming tool for a pistol grip shotgun is a laser mounted in the forearm. There have to be at least a few on the mrket these days.

I think surefire may do something. but I'm not sure if it would fit a short barreled shotty.

also, hypotheticaly, could an auto-loader be easier to shoot in a pistol grip format, as the mechanism would absorb some of the recoil? or would the motion of the action cancel this out?

personaly I only see the point in the short 3 round pistol gripped models in very spesific circumstances. for carry in a saddlebag ect they could easily be fitted with a folding stock without sacrifiseing usability, so the only possible applications that I can see are as a specialist concelable weapon (although as most users of such weapons are probably LEO/Millitary types, compact SMGs make more sense to me) or as a breaching tool, as it would be lighter and more compact for the user to carry, when they have annother weapon as their main.

However I've never shot one, and near certainly never will. 3 rounds in the mag is illegal in this country, let alone something you can fit under a jacket.

I use my 870 for ducks and deer. So far this year, I have killed at least 20 ducks. My buddies have Beretta extremas ($1,200+ guns) and try to bust my chops. I tell them "when you kill more than me, I'll buy a new one."

The gun has been great. 15 years of hard use and it keeps going strong.

Keep in mind, we hunt out of kayaks and my gun lays in salt water and 20 degree weather for hours.

I have a Franchi double I use for Rabbit and Pheasant. I have a 1911 for in house protection, and if I were to grab a gun to feed the family, the 870 would probably be it, but if I were grabbing a Mossy 500, I would feel just as confident. I don't think the JIC package is worth the money, but the weapon is just fine.

ok...I have shot me a pistol grip AOW many times and am going to have a SERBU built for my patrol bag...and you cannot convince me that a short barreled pistol grip shotty is useless as a defensive tool...YOU as the operator have to know how to shoot it. plain and simple...its all operator.

I know many Motorjocks in multiple PD's that carry these in the saddle bags of the patrol bikes...I have qualed with a 3 rd'er at 50 yds and placed all rounds center mass...( i had to reload but i did it.) I have seen many officers run and complete the qual course with them routinely.

I think they have their place, but you have to understand this system and beware of its properties...

Useless, nope....great shotty, awesome little blaster...that will add firepower to even the most exposed officer like the motorjock. Not for everyone mind you.

these pictures are not mine....when i get mine i will post a picture of it. these are just for reference.

That's a very specific setting where there are few options available. If I only had a saddle bag to work with, sure, I'd toss an AOW in there. I bet for the same size you could do quite a bit better with an AR pistol though.

For the purpose of the original post, and for most people using/shooting shotguns for sport or defense, I still stand by my original statement.

Operator...you are correct. I put a lot of time into firearm training and feel very confident with my 500. Last year I put just under 10k rounds through it at different training classes, competitions, and my own practice time.

My 870 loves the Winchester 2 3/4" military grade 00 buck. The stuff patterns very well with the 20" fixed choke barrel. Federal and Remington didn't do as well, but wasn't all that bad.

For my 15th birthday (more than 23 year ago now) my dad got me a Mossberg 500 combo gun with 18.5" and 28" barrels, and full wood stock and pistol grip too. Great gun, and as a teenager I had a lot of fun blowing up water filled milk jugs hollywood style with the short barrel and pistol grip. I was never dumb enough to hold it up to my face to sight it, but I got a sore wrist a few times from holding it at arms length one handed, it would usually recoil 90 degrees straight up in the air. I sure miss that gun, wish I never would have let it go when I moved into the city for a few years.
