I bought a Sebenza and didn't really like it - the knife I bought from a gas station for $5 cuts just as well.
But my question is this: Which is the best steel, the best brand, the best blade shape and should I get a folder or a fixed blade? My intended use is cutting stuff.

Oh, and I would like to know if knives made in China are any good. Could we discuss this please.

You will never go wrong buying a Spyderco knife!

Yes, you actually can go wrong. Here's proof:

You should see how many times the very topic of this thread is brought up. Probably more than anything else.

Hooray, we made the Search Function on this search! ;)

And BTW, that's a but ugly Spyderco - I want one!

I thought the Captain was a joke on how Spyderco has ugly knives until I saw it in person. It feels great in hand but my god it needs to take a look at its self in the mirror.

Spyderco get it wrong all the time, actually. Take a look at all of their discontinued models some time. You will see some stuff even odder than the Captain, in there.

Sal isn't afraid to give hit or miss models a chance, and will waste his time and money being a fan and enthusiast of knives in many cases by producing models that he thinks are interesting, but won't sell well, at all. He also likes to make knifes that appeal to only a small portion of the knife community, just to make them happy, knowing that after the people that want them, get them, the sales will stop and he will have to discontinue the model.

He's an awesome guy, and we really are privileged to have him heading a company, even if Spyderco drops an odd design that just doesn't get any support now and again.

All the previous posts have really nailed it. You've hit on every major "hot topic". All I have to add is that we are all both SINCER and PASSIONATE about our beliefs. And, I believe, that is what makes this forum fun.

Can't believe this thread went for three pages before this one came up. First thing I thought of... :D
Lol, mine too. I couldn't believe it wasn't in the first 3-5 responses lol. Maybe they thought just mentioning it would result in a re-surface haha j/k.

Most discussed: "I have no money but I want the best knife ever what I get?"

Most controversial: political

the second would own both if mods didnt lock the threads.

We should have a thread discussing whether we think this looks good or (as in my case) freakin' ugly! :barf:

So when you owned this knife, what did you dislike about it's ability to get the job done? Was it lack of cutting ability, strength, lack or ergonomics? Just curious.

Spyderco doesn't get it wrong; the PUBLIC gets it wrong!:D

The merits of various steels by those who keep their knives in a drawer and never, or hardly use them. 90% of all knife steel discussion on this forum is hubris and the theoretical.
