Most Inexpensive Trustworthy Folding Knife?

Depends on what everyone considers "cheap" I will say that my life, I believe is not cheap and would spend just a little extra if my life depended on it.

Just play along and pick a cheaper knife.

How about the Spydie Tenacious.

Based on the knives I own, the Spyderco Native 5 is the cheapest folding knife I would have with me.

Based on knives I have owned, the lowest priced knife that answers the question is a cold steel voyager. But right now the knife that serves the purpose reguadless of price is a partial serrated emerson horseman or roadhouse.

Kershaw Blur or Kershaw link if it's in the $50 range for inexpensive.

Cheapest knife for self defense: A large Cold Steel of some sort. I have a Recon 1, but would be just as happy with an AK, Talwar, Voyager, etc.

Cheapest knife for survival: Depends, if it's urban survival: a Leatherman Wingman. Wilderness survival: probably the Cold Steel AK-47. The pommel seems like it would be useful.

It's really sort of an absurd question though. Selecting a knife that you'd be comfortable staking your life on seems to assume you're aware that it'll be serving in that role. If I have to select a knife for a definite self defense or survival situation, it's not going to be a folder.

Well sometimes a folder is all you have...

To me the answer is obvious: The best folder I have ever owned, including some $500 ones, and it's $25. Kershaw RJ Martin Tactical 1986, 3 11/16" blade: What puts this one over the top is that it has Kershaw's clever assisted opening (a spring inside one of the scales), and it simply beats all other folders in ease and speed of opening: It basically is an automatic, but without any of the stress and hassles of an automatic... Plus the handle ergonomics are superb, and the edge geometry quite easy to reduce in angle. Lighter than any other yet strong where it needs to be.

Wow, I am going to check into this one.

I love cheap knives also. Someone on this forum gifted me a Rough Rider canoe in 440 and I LOVE the dang thing.. weird because I have all these expensive knives and this one I like to use. I also like the softer easy to sharpen steel because it only takes a few licks on the V sticks and is sharp as can be,

Yeah, not really into knife fighting. Maybe something light that wont slow me down while I'm sprinting away?

For survival with a single cheap folder?

Svord peasant, no questions in my mind.

Why?

Its a friction folder, which actually means its a short handled fixed blade with a big fat flip out handle extension. So no lock to break, or heck not even a "pivot failure" would be a big deal as long as it was the screw that failed.

Oh, and they're less than $15, and made of a carbon steel similar to L6. Should be quite tough.

Cold Steel Extra Large Voyager Tanto.

After that, CS Voyager, (price leader) but also the American Lawman, Talwar, etc - all good.

After that, many good choices referenced in this thread but the OP's parameters kinda limit choices and brought me to those I mentioned, starting with the XL Voyager Tanto.

My most inexpensive and trustworthy folder is the one that stays snugly closed in its sheath all the time, everytime.

Unlike most people, I do not believe in the use of a knife for self defense. And I speak as a conscript soldier. The fact that our country has laws that criminalize the use of any item superior to those used by the assailant for self defense plays a major role as well.

Cold Steel without a doubt. Even the low end ones are tough as hell :-D

You discount multiple assailants, which obliterates that argument. Also any item larger than a knife could qualify as "superior", not to mention any huge disparity in physical size....

Cold Steel Pocket Bushman..

I abused it a lot, batoned hard wood with it and also has lot of reach for self defense.

Carry that knife more than any of my mid-techs
