Most Inexpensive Trustworthy Folding Knife?

Simple question, simple answer. Buck 110, with a thumbstud for OHO. I'm not looking too deep into the question, so there you have it. Inexpensive and trustworthy...

Wow, I expected most of these answers, as mine are similar.
For surviving, pure utility being useful in every situation/context/problem and solving many kinds of scenarios (prying, screwing, sawing, slicing, ripping, tearing, puncturing...) I'd take a nice SAK, most likely one of my Wengers

For a possible Self Defense scenario or very rough use folder, the cheapest I'd trust my life to is the CS Voyager Large, then come the Recon 1, AK47, Hold Out and Broken Skull as well as all my XL folders from them.

That is if we're talking folding knives, as I'd choose almost any good basic Fixed Blade before taking any of them

What is the most inexpensive folding knife that you would trust your life with in a survival or self defense situation?

I'm talking about the cheapest folder with regards to cost that you would trust not to fail in an emergency?

Just curious what you all think :)

Mine would be a CRKT M16-13T

My approach to self-defense is the same as approach to survival. In a word, avoidance. Good planning, preperation, situational awareness and solid risk assessment are the best ways to prevent a true survival/self-defense situation, IMO. When these situations arise, I think in most cases (not all, obviously) people were tempting fate to begin with.

I carry either an Opinel #10 (usually) or Mora Companion (rarely) or an old Schrade fixed blade (super rare) for backcountry travel.

I carry either a Buck 110 or Opinel 9 or 10 most days for EDC.

In so far as the Opinel 10 and Mora Companion are regular parts of my backcountry kit, you could say I bet my life on them, but I do so in the context of a larger backcountry kit of essentials.

Not an expert of SD with a knife nor am interested in it. But just can't refrain myself from posting here, per those who recommend Buck 110. Yes I got it that you guys love it and given the price it is not a bad folder at all (I own one too). But please do yourself a favor, do you honestly think it is a good choice for SD???

Yeah, not really into knife fighting. Maybe something light that wont slow me down while I'm sprinting away?

See, I'd be of the opposite school of thought for a 1 on 1 encounter. Heavier is better. So when I hurl it at my assailant before sprinting away it'll hurt regardless of its orientation at the time of impact.

Wish I could find that old Sprint (?) commercial with the "theft deterrent."

Of course...you can throw that brick at a would be attacker and knock them out cold from three yards away.

I answered the question in the title of the post, not delving into the self defense aspect. I agree with those that said avoidance is key. I've been in a quite a few scraps and I've never felt the need to draw any weapon. If I was threatened enough for that thought to cross my mind, I would do my best to haul ass out of there.

I would choose the Buck 110. I have used them for years. I have used them for hunting, fishing, hiking and on the job so i feel like i understand what they are capable of and of the limitations. I will run as far and as fast as i can before i will use one for self-defense but if i could run no farther i would grip the 110 closed in my fist and use it as a downward striking impact weapon.

I assume the original question was aimed more at which manufacturer and model rather than what is the best dedicated SD model. The cheapest that I own that I would trust would be a Spyderco Tenacious although I rarely carry it because I have so many nicer models. What I carry most are Spyderco PM2, Spyderco Manix 2 and Benchmade 913 Stryker.

Its may be one of the knives most-used as a weapon ever. So yes.

Depends on what everyone considers "cheap" I will say that my life, I believe is not cheap and would spend just a little extra if my life depended on it.

When it comes to my survival, cheapest is not a selecting factor.

Yup. It is a bit of a silly question. "How cheap can you get away with saving your life in fantasy situations you will never be in". I mostly use folders to cut things. In fact I use some rather expensive folders to cut things daily. Why wouldn't I have one of those folders in my pocket on the day Zombies took over the world? Oh, and I usually have a fixed on me as well, and an MT, and a glock with a reload. would I not have these when I found myself needing to defend my fort from an invading army or when I am walking in the wrong part of town? I'll clue you in OP, I would!

Cheapest folder I carry is a Kershaw Tremor or a Utilitac II, so I guess those would be my answer but again, I'd rather use my fixed blade to dispatch the sentries or my glock to brain the Zombies from a distance. Are we in prac-tac yet?

Ah, maybe that's why the inexpensive bit is in the op's question. So then when you throw it at them you're not out much cash?

Maybe I was under the assumption that the task could change from self defense to survival at any moment? In that case I wouldn't want to throw my best resource away, only to need it again after I finished losing my would-be attacker with my startling speed. Other that that though, your plan is solid :).

And no idea what commercial you're talking about is. But it sounds hilarious :).

And if I couldn't have my svord, id take a rat 1/2, esee zancudo/avispa, opinel, and a number of other good solid "normal" folders. Could make do with anything of any decent quality I think.

Pretty sure it was a Sprint commercial.

Two guys in a country club locker room discussing cell phones. Guy 1 mentions the features on his phone. Guy 2 says his phone has "theft deterrent" and then challenges Guy 1 to take it from him. As soon as Guy 1 starts to move, Guy 2 wings the phone at him, hitting him in the face. Theft deterrent.

Read your description and *had* to go looking for it. Ouch. LOL

As for knife, I've been carrying my Broken Skull lately. Sometimes in back pocket, sometimes in my bag.

I have one folder that I carry all day everyday, an Emerson Mini CQC 15.

I may or may not carry a second folder, so I guess that would be the one I am sure to have to rely on.
