I might have written a couple of those negative posts way back in the day.
Now, I own almost exclusively Emersons.
It takes some people a while to warm up to them.
Now, I think of them as the Smith & Wesson revolver of the knife world. Lots of people trade in their revolvers for fancier things but, at the end of the day, when the S. hits the fan or there's a bump in the night (or any other cliche you can think of), you feel pretty freakin' secure with the reassuring weight of a S&W in your hand... and you sure as heck wouldn't trade it for the "mystery" automatic someone hands you that you haven't tested. You can SEE that it works.
Oh, and as far as price goes, Emerson has done better than anyone, in my opinion, at keeping their prices down. (Ignoring MSRP, of course.) SURE, they were expensive five years ago, but I can STILL buy one for the same price I got one for five years ago! Hands down, ANYBODY that's broke can get a lightly used Emerson for $100 if they look on the forums or Ebay, just like they could back five years ago or longer. I challange you to find a similar quality-level knife for that now.
Besides, they use regular screws, you can take 'em apart and work on them yourself and, near as I can tell from my experience, Emerson will fix anything that goes wrong with one in like a week with no hassle.
Oh, wait... here comes my favorite part...
If I lose one or want another or want to get one for a friend or something...
I CAN STILL GET ONE! They haven't DISCONTINUED the knife like every other freakin' company seems to do with every model I end up liking! The Commander and the CQC-7 have and will be around F O R E V E R !
