Oh yes, of course! All the real guys who know what the real stuff is are on Africa and southwest Asia forum, but, nevertheless, you will agree there are nice people here, not so acknowledged than on ASA, far from, but, well, they are, say , nice people...

Im interested in survival and bushcraft .. both to me are the same , one is just a harder core version of the other , and there is some good stuff here to learn , with a healthy mix of latest gadgetry and good ideas ..

:D Well Said .....

I was on Bladeforums for 2 months before I discovered the WSS and never looked back...if I am not here, I am on the exchange or the BUSSE forum.

it seems like the busse area gets ALOT of traffic, especially when they are having their ganzaas (then the forusm shut up because they server is overloaded)

this is where i head first when i get on teh computer, then to traditional fixed and folders, then to maintenance, then i sometimes peruse the for sale/gallery areas to check out the pretty knives.

but i find that i spend about 70% of my time on BF in this subforum.

its great with all the traffic, quick responses. there always seem to be new pictures, and there is always at least a thread or two with a really stimulating, helpful conversation/debate going on. that's minimum. sometimes everyone around here goes on a kick for a week or two and there are all kinds of really informative/developing new concepts/questioning standards to improve the general knowledge kinds of posts.

i agree with what was said; since brian came back the mood in the forum has gotten a little bit better, and there seems to be more activity. thanks brian for all your work!

siguy, thanks. Like I've said, you guys all make it easy. I just kinda steer a little here and there, but this forum really runs itself -- and that's a credit to the members, not the moderator.

However, Bass and Guinness beers are my favorites, with Magic Hat #9 coming in at a close second, so, if you really are happy with the minimalist work I do, then anyone feel free to send beer. ;)

:D:D:D:D:D

Gee, I like it here, and someday i will sort out my crap build a bag and show everyone, but first sleep and more 50 hour work weeks. Y love all the pics of hikes, knives "IN USE", and everything else. Pat

Magic Hat, eh, Brian? You have good taste, my friend. Of course, Guinness and Bass ain't too shabby neither!

I check WSS first and last.

I say its up there with the Hogs on the Busse section, but on a crazy Ganza night, I think they overload the site and shut it down!

It's because Americans are in love with the fantasy of "survivalism"
For some it goes back to Rambo and Grizzly Adams ;)
To others Fess Parker and Spencer Tracy

And the books
The thread on survivalism "classic" books was awesome

Plus there is the nostalgia of reliving the days when you wentcamping with your dad and started your first "tepee" style fire (Trent still stands by the tepee method...There is none better...IMHO)
Especially in todays URBAN environment
Plus it's all ways good to be ready when the feces hits the fan
Am I wrong Donny?

Ha! Trent's first direct communique to me was to rip me a new one bigtime in GB&U! Now we're friends. Hee-hee! Funny how things turn out...:D

I agree.

For instance despite the discussion of a lot of "survival" stuff which is good to actually think about anyway, if you look at what most of us really do, it is more about hiking and camping.

However if you put two forums beside each other and one was labeled "hiking and camping" and the other was labeled "survival" the survival one almost certainly would get more hits and posts:rolleyes:

I think that get togethers of folks on the net are super cool, and a lot of info and good vibes are exchaged.

But if you look at the pictures there are usually a lot of coolers, and big tents, and while people might practice stuff like bowdrills, or making shelters or stuff once again I would classify more "hiking and camping" than "survival":D

But the romance of the word "survival" has a big draw.

Anything that brings people together is good IMO so I'm not knocking it, just sort of expounding on your statement there TR.

I would like to see a gathering sometime where everybody just brought a bare minimum of gear, no shelter, and maybe only what they could cram in a 1000 cu in or less pack, no food and just subsisted for a few days on what they could scrounge from the terrain:thumbup:

The coolers and campers are so that you don't suffer while learning skills, so as to ultimately not suffer when you have to use them for real.
