most reliable fixed blade for 50?

i'd add just a little to the budget and go with a plain old USMC Ka-Bar.

damn good knife for teh price.

Another vote for the BK-2.

The USMC KA-BAR is a great knife, but the BK-2 is stronger all around.

USMC Fighting Knife

The most famous fixed blade knife design in the world
1095 Cro-van steel
Leather Handle, USMC Fighting Knife
7" Straight Edge Blade
Knife Made in USA
Leather Sheath made in Mexico :barf:

My sheath was kinda sucky but a lot of treatments of various leather treatments have darkened it a bit and made it kind of cool - definitely works fine. :)

BK-2

Knife with drop point shape, 20-degree blade
Made of 1095 cro-van steel
Handle made of Grivory material
Blade measures 5.5 inches; knife is 10.5 inches long
Knife made in USA, includes glass-filled, nylon sheath

Yawn.....smaller blade more expensive by $12 which is the exact price of the optional Black Kydex Sheath if you want it on the leather stacked USMC.

It comes at the same price as the BK-2 in the Ka-Bar Black Fighting/Utility Knife. (Oval shaped Kraton G thermoplastic elastomer handle) comfy handle kydex sheath, 7" copy of leather stacked handle USMC fighter.

I'd for for either the Traditional 7" USMC blade or the newer 7" Fighting/Utility.

I have a Buck 119 and its great I've used it for skinning, gutting and even batoning. I have noticed that the blade does get dings from time to time from hitting bones but nothing huge and no breakage or loose parts but a quick refining on the wet stone gets it back in shape. I will head you though Buck has some of the knives made in China so if you want to get a 119 made in the U.S make sure the package has an American flag on it, if it dont then it means its made in China. Good luck!

If I could have one knife for $50, I'd get the Ka-Bar 7" utility/fighting knife ($50.98 on Amazon with free shipping).
