This contest thread has been moved to the for sale forum at the direction of the moderator.

I like having contests where I can give away pieces of burl and other unusual wood. My idea for this contest would be every Friday afternoon I would have a drawing for a block of whatever sort of wood I was cutting that week. The weekly contest will continue as long as there are new entries each week. I will pick out one of the best pieces and that will be the prize for that week. If you need scales, I can cut it for you. I will also pay for the shipping anywhere in the world.

For this week's drawing (August 27) this is the prize. A block of Golden Amboyna Burl.

I will change the photo every week to show what the coming week's prize will be.

If you have ever used wood from Burl Source or It's a Burl you can enter the contest. It doesn't matter if it was wood you purchased from us, won in a previous contest or got when we were providing beginner wood.

Just make a post telling what kind of wood you got from us. Feel free to post a photo if you'd like.

You get one entry if you have ever gotten wood prior to June 7th.

Every time you get wood after June 7th you can enter again by making another post telling what else you got.

Every Friday afternoon there will be a drawing using a random number generator that will select a number between 1 and the number of posts that have been made in this thread.

I wanted this contest to be a way to reward all of you who have purchased wood from us.

I also need to make a confession of shameless self promotion.

I was hoping that some of you who have never used any of our wood would purchase a piece and try it out. I think it is really good wood and am willing to back it up with a no questions asked money back guarantee. I figured if you don't like what you get, you can get your money back. ...and if you do like what you get, you will probably buy more.

If you have never bought wood from us before and make a purchase, you are welcome to make a post here and enter the contest. You get to enter once for every time you purchase wood from us. The more times you buy, the more times you can enter and the more chances you have to win.

Just make a post that says something like; "I've purchased maple and redwood burl" or "I won a Block of Buckeye burl" or something like that.

Then check back here every Friday afternoon at about 5PM PST to see if you won. If you are the winner, send me a PM with your mailing address so I can mail you your prize.

I got some incredible redwood burl not long ago, and you threw in some maple too. Count me in.

I just recieved my Flashy Red Eye Dead Man's Maple Burl and it was even better looking than the pictures gave it justice.

I've got several things from you: maple burl, underground redwood burl, hard ancient redwood burl, red gum eucalyptus, willow, etc. Wouldn't object to some more :)

For those who haven't ordered: Mark has really great wood in generous sizes and excellent cuts. You'll like it. The first piece may be free ... :)

I have purchased some beautiful red gum eucalyptus from Mark and he graciously gave me a beautiful set of some redwood burl scales. I will try to get a pic of the gum up tonight, it is really beautiful stuff!

I recon Mark owns half my estate by now (it's a VERY small "estate" :p) with all the burl wood I've gotten from him. I'm particularly a sucker for his old growth redwood stuff as well as some of his buckeye.

I'll send you that payment I owe you tomorrow. That way I can get another entry. :D

Well, prior to June 7th, I've purchased a passle of desert ironwood, some really nice redwood burl, and some English walnut from Mark. Always good wood (love the redwood) and fast shipping. And thanks for the red gum euc. as well!

Ah - I thought at first you were looking for a photo. I'm way away (3,000 miles away :-o ) from home at a job in Delaware, so I don't have photos of my purchases. But let me tell you something, I've bought an entire one of these full of Mark's fantastic products.

I've only used a few at this point. a couple of odds and ends of kitchen/barware. My future projects are seemingly endless, by the way, starting with handling a damascus coffin handle bowie for a friend who got the blank from Two Finger up in Idaho. It just might MIGHT need some of that hard-as-iron 40's redwood burl.

I've carved a couple of crude Mexican Day of the Dead skulls from his walnut, and I'm about to begin a set of mounted animal skulls that will have shield shaped mounts from bookmatched spalted maple and buckeye. Hoping that goes well.

Needless to say, I'm a big, big fan.

I've purchased a few blocks. Here is some of that 1940's redwood burl that was floating around a while back:

I'm in, I just picked up some really nice Koa blocks from Mark, and he's great to deal with here on BF. I just need to forge some more blades for my new handles

I've got from Mark, let's see....

Buckets of:

Maple burl
Buckeye burl (stablized and natural)
Redwood (God knows how many different types)
Spalted Maple
Eucalyptus
Claro Walnut and a bunch of other various species of walnut
Myrtlewood

I'm fairly sure there are some I'm missing but you get the idea.

I picked a little desert ironwood from you. I'm not too big on participating, but I gotta say that looks like a really nice piece of redwood burl.

Take care, Craig

I have purchased a bunch of wood from Burl Source.
The lighter colored scales are some maple burl from there.

I won a piece of sycamore off you a while back. It is now cut up into two handle blocks, with one waiting to be used on a hunting knife. Should be done in a couple of weeks.
