MT21P - Mule Team Fixed Blade with CPM 4V

I have been using my MT21 in the kitchen for the past week. Vegetables, meat, etc and not one sign of patina or staining. The MT01 - 52100 steel has a bunch of patina within the same week.

I guess the MT21 is pretty close to stainless.

Stuck mine in some apple cider vinnegar for a couple hours, just to see what it would do. Very slight discoloration. Should be easy to take care of, as far as corrosion goes.

Takes a while to upload pics :D let's just say don't throw it as hard as you can several times

Why would you throw a hardened piece of steel? Were you trying to use them as throwing knives?

Ooops forgot to say. I received both of my mules today. Also Spyderco responded to my email: they no longer provide hardness of steels it is not secret information.

Pretty much seeing how they held up as a throwing knife. The throwing wasn't what broke the tip, it bent and when I tried to bend it straight it snapped. My theory is that the throwing weakened the tip.

That was quick 80 bux.

Ouch. :( As thin as the tips are, I will say I am impressed that it held up under throwing at all!

Pretty sure you either mis-typed, or forgot some punctuation there. Is it secret information, or not? I don't understand why they wouldn't provide it unless they keep it secret. Can you please eloborate?

Metal fatigue.

Well I am just sad. Got hit with a car bill, going to need to liquidate both of the mules@ cost. Was looking forward to testing them.

Since it's a mule I'm going to put a new tip on it via dremel. Then it will be good as new for my purposes.

I was actually envisioning that very thing: take the edge up to the top of the break and give it a little more belly. It would probably make a fine knife for processing game.

I also left it in an onion overnight. Very little patina 1095 would have been black. Seems pretty stain resistant within reason for tool steel

I don't know whether to laugh or cry :)

But hey man, now you can find some cinder blocks and baton through them

Yeah, but is it tough enough?

I don't know if the knife is tough enough (I presume you are talking about its ability to take lateral stress here), but do note that he is doing that with his new one, not the one with the broken tip (even though he could use that knife). ;)

I was playing, the steel is pretty great

You will get no argument from me on that point. I was questioning whether I should give my second one to my wife wondering whether she would inadvertently chip it out or break the tip or just plain forget to dry it off after use. Some of these posts are making me feel more comfortable that in a battle between her and this knife, the knife will make it through ok. ;):D
