MT24P - Mule Team Fixed Blade with Maxamet

Woo Hoo!
Thanks Jim. I read your review while I was waiting for the "order" button to show up on the mule web page.
Been waiting a year or two for this release.

Thanks Sal and Spyderco.

It's an interesting steel. :)

I just picked up one of these based on Ankerson's amazing results! I feel like it's my birthday!

Now to get scales & a sheath. Any advice on that?

I just phoned in my order for two. Wonder how many they made.

Not that I've used them all that much yet, it's cool to know I've got what some might believe is the holy trinity of superhard supersteel Mules (K390, S110V and now Maxamet).*

*I realize that a bunch of folks will now come out of the woodwork claiming their favorite Mule as one of the top three...

In like Flynn!!!

Thank you very much, Sal!

I also stopped by Halpern to pick up a set of scales for this one.

ETA: Also want to throw out a "Thank you!" to Jim for testing one in time for the release. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Got my pair! I've missed out on some of the other awesome Mules, but not this one!!!

yep got one, can't wait to see how it holds up under florida work and weather.

Halpern does a great job with scales.
Sheathpro has been recommended by Sal in the past (and they have the different halpern scales to mold). Christina does a great job.
- Otherwise, can go with usual forum vendors like Azwelke

Put an order in for one, looking forward to it. My wife has the S110v Mule with Camatillo scales(Mexican Kingwood), and it is a great knife.

Scales from Halpern & a hand made leather sheath on their way. We'll see if they arrive at the same time as the Mule.

In for a pair. Never heard of this steel or had anything at this hardness before. Looking forward to the first sharpening attempt.

As hard as this steel is, and as old as I am, I may never have to sharpen it! LOL

Mine is all dressed up with nowhere to go. :) I am busy today pulling a motor from my jeep so I don't have time to reprofile it yet but hopefully I will sometime this weekend. Just taking a break and posting up a pic.

That's my concern. Non coated non stainless can be scary here.
Most of my blades are non coated, non stainless that I use in the Eastern forests while backpacking in humid conditions. Mostly 3V and A2 and 1095 steel.

No rust problems because I put the new blades in a bath of hot vinegar before any use. The patina protects them. Plus I keep a patch of cotton cloth, wetted with mineral oil, in a sandwich baggie & wipe the blade after each use.

They don't shine anymore, so no good as shelf Queens, but my blades are tools. I'm not sure what to do with this blade though. It's special!

I'd like to get one, but I'm so happy with the K390 MULE, don't know if I should spend the $. Still need kydex for the K390. I'm slackin'

Interested in hearing user thoughts on the Maxamet.
