MT24P - Mule Team Fixed Blade with Maxamet

I've been waiting for a folding knife steel like this for 25 years.

Well S110V and M4 are certainly no slouches.

Next knife and first production knife other then the mule from spyderco with a Maxamet blade will be the Manix 2 according to Spyderco.

Manix 2 or Manix 2 LW? And color, what COLOR? (Sorry, I missed the email that everybody else got.)

I find that interesting they haven't sold out already. But then Spyderco has released a lot of different models lately so that may have something to do with it I suppose.

Yes, my wallet is hurting. I have my wife help me order the Jade PM2 since I have to work all day, then I caved and bought the CF version. She had a little trouble understanding why I bought 2 similar knives so close together. And then I couldn't resist buying just one of the Maxamet mules. I need a little break before I have to buy another one.

My Maxamet Mules with smoothed Halpern Scales. One set is Blue/Black G10, and the other is the "Heritage Brown" (Walnut) Dymondwood. I sanded both sets smooth to 600 grit (used 80 grit to remove the points, then progressed through 120, 240, 320, 400, and 600), then polished with Flitz. Washed them down with Dawn dishsoap, and finally added a coat of Ren Wax.

They turned out pretty darned good, if you ask me! :D I wish the G10 was a brighter blue, as they're darker than I was hoping for (which makes it really hard to photograph with the blue showing well), but that's the way it goes. And yes, before anyone worries, I wet sanded the g10 under running water to prevent any nasty fiberglass dust.

Enjoy the pics!!!

My favorite pic of the bunch. Has a cool yin/yang thing going on. :)

Very nice sanding job. I have those Heritage /Walnut scale on my MT24. Looks like I'll be sanding tomorrow! LOL

No slouches for sure, but this maxamet mule is the first blade produced that rivals some home made ones I have made from parting tools. I've never had the means to make a folder from them, or found anyone who would do it for me, so I'm excited Spyderco is, especially a useable 3" folder like the native.

I thought this video comparing Maxamet to 10V was interesting.

The MT 24 did a lot better than I thought it would.

I especially liked his quote at 2:09 regarding cardboard-based cutting tests with these steels:

"Unless your stockpile is ridiculous, you're just going to run out of cardboard."

Any before pictures? They look freaking GREAT!

I did not, but there are plenty out there with a quick Google image search.

You can refer to my post #44 for "before" pictures of the heritage walnut scales. The texture is seriously aggressive.

Yep. Too much for my taste, and I like Busse grips. The G10 are just as aggressive, but sharper being a harder material. They would tear up anything that spent any amount of time rubbing them, including hands.

Literally just discovered the Mule model an hour ago... saw this post and had to have one. On its way from Spyderco!
