MUDD Pass II Review Fourm

Regular MUDD................second (II) passaround.............at least I think that is what it means!:)

Hey guys... I'm too new to the board to be part of the pass around... so I took a 'very' small chance and purchased a MUDD without seeing one in the flesh.

All the photos I found on the web had the same pictures from the same angles, so I took some pictures from various angles and with other similar sized items and knives so you could get a perspective of the knifes' true size.

It's a lot bigger than I thought, a lot "grippier" than I thought, and way cooler in person. There's NO wiggle waggle and it locks up super tight without the slightest movement even with ample pressure applied.

Where ever your fingers land there's plenty of grip, thumb included. The knife feels very good with tactical gloves on. I have no issues with the clip. It's a very solid combat folder. I really like it... A lot - It's an awesome companion! OH and it's very sharp.

Sorry mods if I made a mistake in putting this here... just thought I'd share the pics... please move for me if required. Thank You.

Hey Jack.

I mentioned it the original sign-up thread, but just to let you know, the knife is on its way!

i guess i should post my review. this knife was everything i thought it would be and more! i love the blade shape as for what i do it works great. if this was my knife i would sand down the grips some, there are some sharpcorners around some of the grip screws and the g-10 grips are very grippy for me. it took a little time to get used to the lock as i am used to liner and framelocks. but after awhile it was second nature to close. i do think this knife could be used in water as everything is pretty much self contained. it was interesting to carry this knife as the clip makes completly disappear in my pockets, although the weight made me have to tie the string on my sweatpants!:D once i did i couldn't notice the weight. i like this knife sooo much as soon as my rebate check shows i'm going to be buying one!!:):thumbup: to kershaw/ZT for knocking another one out of the park! and to G&G for designing some great knives. offsetlover it will be in the mail saturday.:D next to try is a R.A.M. flipper!:)

just had to give this thread a BUMP!:D i'm going though withdraw waiting for my rebate check so i can get me a M.U.D.D.:)

that reminds me jack, MY REVIEW!

ok, first impressions

Big knife, but not huge. about the size of the 0200. of course, to me, most knives are small, but i digress. Not the sharpest knife, but it is a passaround knife, so what do i know lol. knowing Kershaw, it would be razor sharp new :D grip wasn't nice at first, but i got used to it, and it became more comfortable.

okie, now for the review

Blade: Excellent shape for cutting and stabbing. I had the opportunity to cut up some cardboard boxes, and, this was the cool part, a pineapple. The knife did well on the boxes (the blade is thick and the edge needed touchup, which i suck at), but absolutly beat the living heck out of the pineapple. The knife is excellent at the job. really liked the thumb studs. those are awsome

Fit and Finish: excellent as always. everything sealed is just plain impressive. May want to consider implementing that feature in other knives in the ZT line. smooth opening as expected. my only problems were that the G-10 was too grippy for my taste, in that it was very ruff on the edges, and that the lock hurt to use multiple times in a row because of how ruff the texturing is.

lockup: solid. solid. solid. can't get any more sturdy. again the Hawk lock is on par with the stud lock and axis lock. like i said above, the grip is abusive on the thumb, but with gloves you would not notice. not a bit of play. it works like a larger RAM, which is a plus :D

conclusion: excellent knife overall. the only thing that could be improved is, well, nothing. yeah, i critized it a bit with the comments on the G-10 and the lock grip. that isn't a negative thing. in gloves this knife wont move at all. it is perfect for LEOs and Military personel. my gloves are winter gloves only, and not the tactical gloves that someone like 5.11 would put out. thus that ruffness is needed to stay put in gloves. in the hand it sure aint goin anywhere

i give the knife a 9.5 out of 10. it has recieved the Offsetlover seal of approval. :D

pic time! and no i dont have a pineapple pic

like i said, small to me :p

I'm curious - how much end-user testing has been done on the lock's imperviousness to sand, rock, mudd (;)), etc?
I mean, wasn't that the point of the design in the first place?

Both the Hawk's and Kai USA have done tests on the "seals" that are in place within the M.U.D.D. Multiple different media's types have been used over periods of time. We have not seen the seals compromised under normal use as of today.
