MUDD Pass II Review Fourm

Hard to answer ol...The 2 are made differently (lock system, blade shape, sealed lock and pivot vs. non sealed) and if I had both, I think I'd consider these facts. Both are beasts, but I'd use them differently, for different purposes. That said, if it makes any sense, yeah, the 0200 would hold up just as well.

thats what i wanted to hear. in case i didnt say anything (ya never know with my memory lol), great review, better pics :D

Hey, just thought I'd try again. Can one of you guys post a pic of the MUDD looking down, across the top of the blade, from above the tip? I hope that's clear, I want to see how thick/strong the tip of the 0500 is. Thanks in advance.

Some great reviews and I have 1 question.
Is the small attachment on the clip really supposed to be a glass breaker because it seems much too round and with the space between the top of the clip and the handle (shown in SPXTrader's pic.) I would think there would be too much flexability for it to be effective. It looks like the same thing thats on the clip of Kershaws ET model. That one I believe is to give a little extention to open & close the folder. On the MUDD If its not a glass breaker I have no idea what it would be for.

On the newer models of the 0500, the glassbreaker knob is no longer there. There isn't even a hole for one.

I dont think its a glass breaker, if you look at it in a pocket when it is all the way in it looks like the person has a pen in there pocket

Yeah, mine doesn't have anything on the clip. it still dissapears in the pocket though.....

Brad, excellent review of the MUDD:thumbup:

It was such a good read, it inspired me to curl up with a good book, but don't worry, I decided to go out and cut something instead!!!:D

I carried the 500 almost exclusively night and day while I had it. I used it to cut cardboard, open bags of ice, cut string, open the package on a new lawnmower blade (tough, tough plastic), cut the plastic on my frozen dinner, used the pointy/pen top end to break up ice. Used it on food several times.

Pros: I think it's a great knife for the price. Love how it disappears due to the low ride pocket clip. Like the blade shape. Liked the weight. With a lanyard, I loved doing snap cuts with it, very effective when opening the heavy plastic bag of ice. Also rode well when I just dropped it in my pocket loose. I like the lock and the fact that when I got food on it I could rinse it off and not worry about getting the lock wet. Opened fairly easy one handed. Closed almost as easy with a little practice. I like the size and position of the lanyard hole. I was able to slide a piece of paracord throught it without gutting it.

Cons: I guess my biggest gripe with the knife is difficult it is to get out of my pocket with one hand. On more than one occasion I couldn't deploy it with one hand quickly for one reason or another. I found that the best solution was either dropping it loose in my pocket or attaching a lanyard and using it. Only problem I had with the lanyard method is that once the blade was halfway open when I pulled it out. I'm guessing that the lock caught on my pocket and the inertia of pulling it out started the blade opening. I think the pocket clip could be adjusted and/or the G10 smoothed down. As much as I like the lock, I still think I'd almost prefer a frame lock and thinner scales. Something combining the 301 and 500.

Nice knife for the price, but a little big for me for EDC. Makes a comforting folder for those times I can't legally carry my gun though. Also, it needs to be sharpened, but I didn't trust myself to do it. I left the lanyard attached, hopefully someone will be able to sharpen it soon. It's headed to Las Vegas....

Greg, Did I send it to you? I put a razor edge on that knife before I shipped it. I don't understand...

Also, after washing it, were there any signs in the least of rust anywhere on it? Just curious about that...

I didn't see any signs of rust. As for the edge, it may have been sharper than it seemed. What made me think it was "dull" was when I was having trouble cutting heavy cardboard to make an IDPA "like" stage for the shooting match. It might of been more of the edge goemetry and the thickness of the blade rather than the edge. I just know that as I was reaching for another knife (Busse Boney AD) a gentleman pulled out his CRKT My Tighe (sp?) and went through it like butter:o

Well, guys, thanks for doing these reviews. I just ordered a MUDD based on what I read here. I appreciate you taking the time to post your thoughts and observations!

hey i almost forgot about this thread. how far along in the passaround are we? and when do we get to decide who gets the mudd?

i remember thomas decided, but i didn't see a decision. if it was already rendered then so be it :(.

sorry just feeling poor after my latest order and my eyes lit up when i remembered about a chance to get one for free :).

No, really...the MUDD is missing. Well at the least its whereabouts can't be confirmed. Check out the thread in Passarounds...

And no decision yet from GG!

ohhhhhhhhh. sorry, italian and alcohol mix, but don't lead to comprehension. i thought you meant it was yours :). mea culpa

The replacemet Mudd has arrived, thanks KICWK, you are a stand up guy!! Actually the last person bowed out, so all that is left is for Thomas to do the judging and someone will be getting a brand new MUDD!

Well despite Brad's cool patriotic pyro pic and review, I have to say that I enjoyed SladeGT40's video very much...If I'm judging, he's the one it should go to.

What a crazy marathon passaround.
