Ram will be in hand tomorrow and review will be up after i have passed it on to the next one

man this thing is something else. ill make sure to get a thorough testbed of things for my review. i have something special in mind

well. ill take my alloted time with the mudd itself. its gonna get another long day of cutting boxes and tape at work. but ill hold off on the review for a week to polish up the material.

What happened to the 1st Mudd pass.
I tried to find the link again, no go. Refresh my memory but wasn't there something wrong with the Axis-style ZT lock, is this right. If this is the case, was it just a once off, design or wear?

so i have had my week with the ram and unfortunately i fell ill thursday night and was kind of incapacitated for two days. would anyone mind if i shipped it out tomorrow instead of today. i have most of the day off and i can gather up all the things i need for a nice review.

Hope ya feel better Matt. Since you're sending it to me, tomorrow's OK...hell, Monday the PO is closed, so wait until Tuesday if ya want. Just drop me a note when you send it so I can prepare the test of death, er, ummm, be be on the lookout for it! Yeah, that's it! Be on the lookout!

So. I spent a week with the MUDD and it arrived to me ready to take on the world. i noticed it had been well-loved before i got it; the pivot had some of the black worn off and the blade had the slightest hint of vertical blade play. however, there was no hint of a lock failure, so i would be confident using it without fear of it closing accidentally.

I carried the MUDD with the RAM every day for a week (except friday when i got sick), and i noticed that i wanted features of each knife to be incorporated into the other. For example, i loved the action provided by the pivot of the MUDD and it allowed for a super smooth close and open using just wrist action (cue the jokes please), which is something i can't get with the RAM. Also, i have never had a knife (and i have plenty of kershaw and ZT) that locks up with such a solid thunk. I showed the knife to many of my co-workers as i have with many of my new acquisitions, and the reaction i got was overwhelmingly positive and kind of "wow! that feels great."

On the opposite angle, (and i understand this is being remedied) but i wished for the clip from the ram to be included on the MUDD, i tore a lovely 1 inch hold in each of the pockets i carried the MUDD in during my week with it. and although the grips were amazing and would offer superior traction in all conditions, i do not feel it is required to work with the pocket clip. i would suggest a removal of the texturing in the area around the clip or simply take a sander to it yourself. the glass breaker was an interesting addition and i unfortunately was not able to try it out (i asked my buddy if he needed any windows replaced in his car and if so could i smash them out, and i am glad i was carrying the MUDD at the time cause i got a look that wasn't friendly). I'd be interested to hear the updates regarding the clip and whether the batch that just left the factory had incorporated the redesign or not.

From a performance standpoint i used it on everything from shrink wrap and cardboard to citrus fruits and hacking the head off a trout (not as easy as i originally thought) and the RAM performed well in all tasks. the 154CM blade holds a nice edge and i only took it through the sharpmaker to try it out and to clean it up when i passed it on; during the week it held up beautifully. since i spend most of my days cutting cardboard and packing tape my edges lose their super sharp status surprisingly quickly (yay alliteration); but the MUDD stayed sharp through all of these tasks.

halfway through the week i pulled the knife out of my pocket and went to grab it and ended up with a handful of blade. i didn't cut myself but i wondered what had happened and a couple draws later it happened again. i discovered and i am not sure this has been mentioned on BF yet (but come correct me if i am wrong) that the textured oversized thumb lug/wheel, acts as a wave opener for the MUDD.

seeing as how my camera has never been up to par with that of the bladeforums photographers so i decided to start using more of my Macs included applications and tried a little movie for you all. hope you like it.

I can say honestly that if i do not win this knife based on this review, i will definitely have to buy it someday soon, which is the best thing i can say about a knife is that i'd be happy to own it.

I second reholli, a most excellent review. On the Mudd I had I refitted the clip so that it attached on the right hand side with no cross over, and it became a foldover, deep carry clip that let the knife ride just as low as the original clip. I sold it to raise some needed money, but have a second one on order that will be here next Saturday. I'll do the same on it's clip also!

Nice vid ('course, now I've got that silly song running through my head...thanks a lot). :p

Damn fine video Matt!

2 questions: Is that a Spielberg or a Lucas production, and how many pairs of pants did you slice up before you got it right? :D

And a great choice of music! The Kershawleone Family Theme Song!:thumbup:

nice video!! and a really great review!!:thumbup: i had it half-way wave open on me and my brother thought i was pulling a little hatchet out of my pocket. :D
