Mule Team™ 28 CPM® SPY27

Would love to see a 2nd model of Mules, I'm thinking bowie shape. Do all the metals over again or ones that are still available. It's amazing to see all the directions Sal, Eric and co head simultaneously.

It’s good to see some more attention coming to the mule line but seeing them sell out like this smells ominously like the Busse flipper crowd. It’s unfortunate for those of use that love this brand. I own a lot of customs now but spyderco has always had a heavy presence in my users. I have a PM2 S30V, Para 3 Lw BD1N, Para3 Maxamet, and a PSF27 mule. I made the trip to spyderco in CO on a vacation and can say it’s nice to have something from the company store. I just don’t want it to be the only Mule I own. Let’s hope the next few runs may mirror the seconds sale where there are batch posts instead of a big drop and a limit of 1 per person. That should discourage the flipper crowd and reward those of us who really want the product.

My mule is on kitchen and camp duty. PSF27 is great steel. I even dropped it tip first in my epoxy sealed concrete garage when it fell off a box. 15 degree bend on the tip about 5mm up but no chipping. Very impressive.

That was my first thought too -- if this thing sold out in 45 mins (or less, idk), theres gonna be people selling them for $120 or $200+ with scales. Its the nature of the beast, but I've missed out on a lot of neat things because people just see a way to makr a quick buck.

If there wont be another run of the SPY mule, I may just have to bite and get a folder with it. At least its not like some of the other mules, which never had a production folder run. Got the RWL-34, M4, and B75P, and its the best way to really find out what the steel is like (since the grinds/lengths/sizes are the same).

Above all else, I'm just happy they're back!

I paid $137 for my mule with scales and a sheath. That range you listed doesn’t seem far fetched or unreasonable to recoup costs minus fees and shipping. Just sayin’

Hi Rain,

Welcome to our forum.

The upcoming Mules began as a run more than a year ago. The steel has already been made and the quantities really can't be changed without putting the project on hold for another year or so. We are now discussing which direction to go with future Mules to see if we can get a Mule to every one that wants one so we can get the feedback we want which is the purpose and function of the project. But I don't think there can be any changes in quantities on the Mules already in the pipeline where the run of steel has already been made.

Please help us Sal!! I also have my eyes set on a Zapp mule. I will see if I can get pics of the PSF27 tip, it’s a sight for sure.

Would be Great to see More Mule's!

The fun of the steel's, modifying shape, scales, blade, etc..
Making it your own!

I keep one in the kitchen, one in each car, one for hunting, etc..
All bought 2nd hand, at inflated prices..

Now that I was able to get 2, for the price of 1 of the cheaper 2nd hand Mule's..

I'm going to use one for a real cut down version... Something a little EDC/"neck knife" sized..

I'm in for new Mule's! All the new Mule's! Regardless of the steel... At 50$, I can practice scale making, sheath making, modify and/or give as gifts.

With S45 coming on the newer knifes, I'm looking forward to trying it out on a Mule project.

I'm super bummed I missed as well. Is there any sort of notification list to get on? I thought I saw someone mention that. I'll tell you what though, if I'm lucky enough to snag any from the next two batches I'm gonna buy as many as I can and sell them AT COST here to members.

Thanks.

Don't be surprised if the next two or three have a purchase limit of one. They've done that before, lifting the restriction after a week or so. The Mule releases are announced a week or two in advance on the factory forum. Take a look over there weekly and you should know exactly when it will drop.

Mule Team subforum over at the Spyderco forum. They announced the SPY 27 release date and time about a week prior. I was ready at 10AM MST and had no problem grabbing one! Good luck friend

Looks great!

Mine arrived today, along with the Boltaron Sheath and G10 scales. It's my first Mule and I can't wait to use it!

Probably pretty self explanatory but do you have any useful tips on installing the scales? Thanks

I usually coat the mule blank with thin layer of Frog Lube paste under where the scales sit, Especially if used in kitchen. I use a Qtip to get the inside of the lightening holes too. If your going to keep the scales attached for a longer period if time I'd add a smidge of Blue thread lock to the barrel screws! :)

Thanks for the tip, I'll grab some Frog Lube.

Couldn’t agree with you more, mules have been a lot of fun.

I see we have the same Cruwear Mule!

And I mean, Literally! Lol..
I reshaped the handle, with the wood scales attached and put a new edge on it.
Like a 12° edge with a 15° microbevel.. Talk about Screaming sharp!
