Mule ZDP189?

"They probably want to sell out of the previous steel first. Seems reasonable to me."

this does seem reasonable. buy more of the current, then you can buy some of the future. it would be my call also.

Vassili, I don't know what this means but I think you seem to be taking this as an insult. Taz already gave out the info she is allowed to. They aren't giving exact release days anymore because things exactly like what you are doing now happens. When people get angry, or offended at their not making dates it's better just to not set dates. That's exactly what they are doing now. Joe

Why can not she say then - "I am not allowed to say this"?

People also get angry when they are ignored - I am not offended by the fact that it is not on sale 1st Jun, I do not see it - 1st Jun was mentioned, I just want to not how long should I wait.

Why should I check every day their website if I do not want to miss it? They perfectly able to say - wait another week or something. But answer is "soon". If it is in a month - it will be fair to say - wait for a month, I'll say OK and come back to this in a month, but no - who am I to be answered?

Thanks, Vassili.

It may seem reasonable, but Sal sad once he is doing small amount and not for profit, so then we may expect better availability, which should not depends on this kind of things.

Thanks, Vassili.

With all due respect, Vassili,

The fact that such info is not given out now is known to even casual readers like me. Read between the lines and please don't expect that she (or anyone at Spyderco) owes anyone here answers to every when/what/where question that is posed to them. Even a newbie (to Spyderco forum) lik eme thinks they are pretty open with their info in most cases.

Relax, bud.
It will come.

Spyderco is a business. Right? Businesses are in the business of making a profit. As such, don't you think it reasonable that profit making lines are a priority while a project done explicitly for steel afficionados, and not for profit, takes a back seat?

You were given an answer here. It is neither Spyderco nor Tazkristi's fault that the answer given was apparently not as specific as you have the gall to expect nor are they required to stop production of profitable knives just to please you. The knives will be produced and, in my opinion, you should be happy that Spyderco appreciates their customers enough to take on such a project. One who would do other than wait patiently is rather impolite in my opinion.

I know that Russians have a word for it with more appropriate connotation but probably inappropriate for public forums...

Hi Vassili,

I appreciate your interest and enthusiasm. Sorry to be slow in response. We just returned from the Blade magazine show and I'm trying to catch up on correspondence and forums.

Even on Saturday.

The knives are complete and on the shelf. We are (this wekend) writing the letter of explanation that goes with the Mule.

We should be shipping out this week. We had to makie 1000 pcs. More than we like, but it was a requirement to be able to make them.......so buy lots of them. ;)

It is a beautiful chunk of Solid ZDP-189. A complicated achievement. We hope you enjoy it.

Thanks, Sal for your replay, I forget about that show...

I was planing to get more then one anyway and with this price it is easy to do.

Honestly Mule is not simple testing stock but pretty good knife overall and I am using CPM M4 and CPM S90V mule all around from cutting thin layers of salmon to cutting drywall. So it is truly working Mule.

What will be next? Any thought about other YSS steels - YXR7, ZDP 247?

Thanks, Vassili.

I got mine already locally in Japan. Let me tell you, you will not be disappointed. This Mule is a shaving machine.

This is correctional you are.
As I understand you are representing not Spyderco...

Well Spyderco never have problem with fair treatment of their customers. As you may see Sal may be perfect role model if it turns into dealing with his clients (not only happy clients or may be difficult client like me, who do not trust words but tend to verify everything myself). In addition to this I would say his prices are very reasonable and I did not spend on his knives as much money as on some other brands - but he still treats me with respect.

So I expect that for Spyderco, for Sal in particular, I do worse an answer, and this is as I expect any customer being treated by Spyderco. I guess, some may learn this from them, as well as learn many other thing which make Spyderco leading manufacturer for highest quality and highest performance knives. Which make me respect them for so many years.

Some companies got my attention by hype and noise, but after real use and testing everything got settle. In this regard Spyderco never disappointed me in knives quaity, knives performance and attention to customers - attention to me, in a quite a few occasions. I never feel like I waste my money on Spyderco.

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. One more thing - Spyderco does not afraid their steels being tested side by side, this is what this Mule program about. And this is huge plus for them in my eyes. As well as the fact that they pay huge effort to have best steel offered by modern metallurgy - is it US or Japan...

1000 pieces!? I guess I'll have to order twice as many of these to help Spyderco clear out their extra stock. As for Sal getting back to us about the release date, I'm surprised he replied so soon. It was Blade this past week and, if the Spyderco forums are correct, it was Sal's birthday on Sunday. I know I wouldn't be attending to company business on the weekend when I should be celebrating my birthday. Just goes to show you how dedicated Sal is to taking care of the customer.

Perhaps things are being lost in translation ("worse" vs. "worth," for example)?
But, I/we can still understand your position. It is unfortunate that you feel that way, Vassili. Personally, I think you are being unreasonable. But you have every right to be -- and every right to spend (or not spend) your money any way you choose.

I am not sure why you think I am not reasonable when I expose my respect and passion to Spyderco, this is unfortunate, I do not understand why, but it is not my business really. Perhaps, people are different. Personally I think I do not feel like I care too much what are you think about me.

Thanks, Vassili.

Exact release dates without fail would be a beautiful thing. We can dream no?:D

Exact release dates VS the realities of production variables = Never Happen ~;-)
