Mules are in

A can of tuna fish mixed in with store brand maccaroni and cheese (poor man's tuna helper) will also stick to the ribs. ;)

Yeah, that's actually one of my favorites even when the budget isn't tight. Some frozen peas thrown in just before you drain the macaroni add a bit of class, and if you've got a slice or two of swiss cheese to melt into it when you mix it all together then it's practically a gourmet meal! :p

I'm not sure you read what I wrote. I paid shipping yesterday when I placed my order for the Mule. Someone just reported the shipping was free for the Mule. I went back to the site and added the Mule to my cart and began checkout. Shipping was free. I did not complete checkout.

I got charged shipping as well, the first post in the sticky still says free domestic shipping. I don't get it either.

I ordered my limit of two, and got free shipping.

I'm thinking a black cord wrap and a black leather Game Warden sheath will make a pretty hot set up.

I bit yesterday as well.

I did get the free shipping....pleasant surprise!

I don't know what the heck I'm going to do with it....but I have one coming. :D

Figure I'll cord-wrap at first then come up with a plan to make some handles.

Where can a guy buy handle making materials?

Steve

Per the latest sticky on the home forum:

We know we had a few issues with the initial release of the Mule Team. Thanks for your patience. We'll be adding inventory to the site as needed (keep in mind, SFO staff does go home at night ;) ).

We apologize to those who had an incorrect shipping charge added to their order. There was a glitch in the code. It's been fixed and anyone who was erroneously charged freight will receive a credit. Now for some issues that are not on our side...

There are some folks who have ignored the limit of 2. We've written basic code to enforce the limit in the shopping cart, but I would rather NOT have to ask our Webmaster to write code to block every possibility around the basic system. We've got many other priorities for the site that we'd prefer he focus on.

The original rule was a limit of 2 per person per address. IF Sales permit, we may open that limit, but only once sales of MT01P have indicated that everyone who wants to participate has been able to do so.

For anyone who placed multiple orders to get around the 2 piece limit, your second order will be held. It will not be shipped and you will not be charged. Once we can review them all we'll determine if the "multiples" will be canceled.

For anyone who ordered and then had a spouse order, the limit applies to your household. So again, the second order will be held.

We had hoped that the limit would be adhered to on the honor system. We hope we don't need to impose any more restrictions to the site to maintain the integrity of the project.

For everyone who has already ordered and followed the 2 piece limit, Thank You!

Thanks for your cooperation.

Kristi

I just ordered one, as well as a large spyderpack and a sharpmaker DVD (never had the courage to turn on the TV and VCR to play the tape which came with the Sharpmaker...)
I "needed" a small fixed blade in a good carbon steel, and this one seemed to fit all my need, plus my love for the calypso Jr/Caly III/UKPK family.
I guess I won't make custom scales, but I'll surely make a nice paracord wrapping on the handle. I wonder how I'll make the sheath, though... Maybe I'll have to learn how to make a kydex sheath...

Anyway, thanks to Spyderco's staff to propose us to test new steels, I'll give my feedback on this steel, although I can only compare it to S30V,VG-10, ZDP-189 and only 2 carbon steel knives (which have totally different blade profiles/shapes :().

I'm probably just going to do a cord wrap too, at least for a while. I may do scales later. I'm debating on weather to use some of the leather I have around here to try to make a sheath or just head over to knifekits.com to order a kydex sheath making kit for 10 bucks (18 or so with shipping). I think I could actually get 2 small sheaths out of the kydex kit so I'll probably go that route since I have a baby khukri from Himalayan Imports that needs a sheath too.

I just ordered one as well. A Spyderco fixed blade at 39.95 and with 52100 (one of my favorite steels!) how can you go wrong?

I am very much looking forward to getting my hands on my MT's. I may use one as a companion knife to a huge DFLE bowie because it is so flat it can fit in a slit in the sheath of the bowie.

I am glad that they are enforcing the 2 per customer rule but it is sad they had to. I expected more shinier footprints.

I was thinking about one but i believe this particular steel rusts fairly easily, correct? I live in hawaii which is humid and salty...

I got one too; this will be my first spyderco knife ever! Thought it looked like a fun project; I think I'm gonna put stabilized dyed box elder burl with a couple of mosaic pins on the handle. Haven't had as much time to grind my own blade lately. Should look good!

You might have to take a little extra care of it in your location, but carbon steels really aren't all that hard to maintain. Unless of course you want to try to keep it all bright and shiny. If you induce a patina on it with fruit juice or vinegar or any of a half dozen or so other methods I've read about, it will help protect the steel against rust. Just dry it off ASAP if it gets wet and wipe it down with some kind of oil periodically and it should be fine. Think about it, people sailed all around the world with carbon steel knives and swords before stainless steels were developed. It just takes a very little bit of extra care.

I got one just for the hell of it. I use fixed blades all of about, oh, never. ;) It may become a fancy kitchen knife. Unfortunately when I moved last year I had to sell off my bandsaw and 2x72 grinder to save weight, so when I make scales it will be back to the old files and Dremel. :(

I have some F-16 fighter wing carbon fiber I might use. Tons of Micarta and G-10. Every natural material you can think of just about.... Choices, choices! :)

Anyone happen to know what dimension assembly pins would fit in the holes?
I've read on the spyderco's forum that the holes weren't a standard size [edit: I read that here]. that will be problematic for handle making... [edit #2: not really in fact, see Raythebigfoot's post on next page for info] I guess I'll stick with paracord wrapping.
I'll try to make my first kydex sheath for this blade, thanks to Salamander42 for his hint to knifekits.

Anyone notice that the current bids on Mules on Ebay are going through the roof? I'm not going to sell mine, but some people must not have the sense to jump over to Spyderco's website and order one for themselves!

I noticed that too! I thought it was weird as well. I think it all started when the site said that they were out of stock. People probably didn't check back the next day and noticed that they were back in stock. Oh well! Got mine coming!
