Multi-Color Becker Handle Kit Now Available

Has anyone dyed them and then stipple a pattern with the original color coming thru? I think that'd be an interesting look. I'd think maybe the red dyed black or something would be awesome. Burn spider webs or such into it. Mmmhmm...

Here's my first attempt at dyeing.

The 'red' scales are really a 'rose' color. Me no likey.

I attempted to get orange by dyeing with yellow. It only turned them a dark blood red. Next I'll try orange dye.

Dye doesn't go very deep. No wear testing yet.

Dyed scale on top. Original on bottom.

Yeah, I don't think you'll get anything but a darker shade of red no matter what you do. No way to lighten it. You could try a darker color then hit it with some steel wool and get it where you like it. Maybe even rough it up with some 80 or 120 grit and it may hold more color. It might end up with a washed look if you then smooth it out with steel wool. All pure speculation of course.

Correct. You can only dye darker, you cannot dye lighter.

The idea of of mixing colors comes from dyeing Spyderco FRN handles. If you dye Yellow FRN with Blue dye, they'll come out Green. So, for my first attempt, the theory was Red+Yellow=Orange. (Couldn't find Orange dye at the time.)

Finally found some Orange dye, 'Sunshine Orange', so we'll see how that comes out. A Burnt Orange is the goal.

Yeah, I see. My guess is you'll get more of the same. Did you get the 4 set or a single pair? Pink may be a better one to work with. I appreciate your effort and experimentation to our benefit!
All this has me getting the itch.

Haha this thread is brilliant.

Let's recap:

Pg1: Ewww WTF was Kabar thinking?!
Pg2: Nup don't like em but I guess I can see a market. Maybe..
Pg3: yeah i suppose they're kinda cool, don't mind the <insert color here>
Pg4: they're actually really starting to grow on me.
Pg5: heck yeah! These scales rock!
Pg6: Take my money! Take my money! <modding begins>
(ad nauseum)

I love it! You guys are awesome! My first impressions? As soon as I saw them my reaction was "holy turd bags! They look awesome!". And I seriously mean that. I'll buy more than one set for sure. I imagine that they'll cost a packet here in Aus though.
<cue dreamscape now>

Red and blue with white liners for Independence Day (and Australia Day!) on my 10.

Red and green for Christmas on the 5 for carving the turkey.

Pink for the missus 7 (naturally)

Green for the apocalypse (on anything!)

..and pink? Well, think pink scales, polished 9, pink fluffy top hat and cape. Pimpinnnnnn!!!!!

Seriously, I think these are actually cool. Plus all the (somewhat) negativity is hurting Kabars feelings. Come on guys, show them support and they'll give it back 5 fold.

P.s. I love you guys. Love, springy.

Well ... I'm still on Pg1! ewwwwww

Yes, I really want Orange. Enough to buy a single pair from Dex and try a dyeing experiment. (As I recall, Dex was going to try Pink.)

So, in the spirit of BK mod'ing, if the factory won't provide what you want ... ;)

perhaps one of you with pink scales should try a blue overdye -- you might get lucky and come out with "pimped biscuit purple".
