Good pics Dex thanks, Ok looking at these i like all colours on the blades except not overly keen on the red. Might have to pick up another 15 throw the pinks on for the wife.
Unless he was mistaken, maybe he meant 5. These scales are for the large frame BKs 2-10. They won't fit the 15,16,17.the colored scales won't fit a 15?

They are just like the black originals.are the zytel scales solid like the micarta - or are they hollow like the grivory?

Agree. I was going to mention that earlier but thought it just might be me.Except I think I feel a little more grip in the texture.

Here's my first attempt at dyeing them. Didn't find Orange at the store and settled for Yellow thinking Red + Yellow = Orange.
Brought about 3 cups of water to a rolling boil, removed from heat, stirred in a whole pack of dye, then lowered in one scale. Took a good 20 minutes of soaking before I could discern a change. The original 'red' scale is really more of a flat 'rose' (especially in the pics above). The dyed scale now looks more dark red, almost a rust red. Definitely like it better than 'rose'. Going to try Orange dye next.
I've seen YT vids recommending adding Acetone for hard-to-dye plastics. But I think that's going to be too stinky to mess with.
Haha. I got my 2015 Ka-Bar catalog in on Saturday and saw these. As well as a couple other cool changes too.
I have to say I do like the Blue! But.............. There really needs to be a second set of 4 made as well I think.
This can be the bold electric set but we need a Neutral Outdoorsman set as well. That set should consist of Hunters Orange, OD or Foliage green, Tan, and a dark grey.
I do like the fact that Ka-Bar is offering these, Really awesome for sure, but I don't think they will sell as good as the set I just mentioned. We talked about this in another thread and most of those are the colors I think everyone agreed would be nice to have.
However, I have not used stock scales in a few years since I switched to micarta, but I am gonna put a set of the blue one's on one of my knives!
I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but I just read through 3 pages what I consider mainly whining and crying about spilled milk.
First, people wanted options. So, Kabar comes out with some options. (Remember, the wheels of corporations change turn slowly.)
People complain that they don't like the colors.
People complain that they are not the color they want.
People complain that they'd rather have the colors in some other material.
People complain that the colors will make their knives look like toys.
People don't want to have to buy all 4 sets.2 for $22 Would be great too. Red & Green or Pink & Blue. But Dex already covered us with singles.
The only complaint I believe has validity is the inability to purchase just a single set. The only color I would like to ADD would be a bright orange100% agree, Though bright orange is too ESEE to me. Wonder if Ka-Bar thought the same?
Hog wash! In my neck of the ghetto. I stick out like a sore thumb more than my knife doesRELATIVELY, very few people carry the big Beckers in an urban environment where they'd stand out like a sore thumb.
I wonder if and what else Ka-Bar has in store?
