No problem Steel Shaper,It isnt my info just some I had found when thinking about this idea myself, glad to pass it on..

Jarod, this is a great idea! I think i remember alot of big industrial shops using oil burning forges, a very cheap fuel when heating LARGE 6 and 7 inch diameter steel.

What I meent was I would never have found that on my own. This forum is like a hub of learning and you seem to often add alot to it. thanks

I would have given links but wasn't sure if we were allowed to cross link to other knife forums.

The guy on backyard castings tried all sorts of injectors and came up with the Brute which doesn't use any injector or preheater.

Will,Allot of the same guys hang on all the different forums,we have been cross linking for years....If you find something somewhere else post it so we all can see it.

If someone does make one of these up lets see some pic's and let us know how it works.I am still thinking of using one myself.

Bruce

I think I will be adapting my propane forge to a "hybrid" tomorrow. I will let you know how it works and send some pics.

COOL Chuck! Good luck, if i see the big massive mushroom cloud from the West i'll know what it is! Seriously though, be safe!

sorry chuck. beat you to it :D. built the oil atatchment today. its a T on the burner tube and the oil is fed through the top part of the T. there is a ball valve that threds into the T using a reducer. conected to the inside of the reducer is a 1/4" copper tube that is bent to point down the burner twards the forge. ill let you know how it works. should work good.

Jarod,Hope it works.....I would be afraid of using the copper tubing as this can smelt copper easy,You may have to put steel pipe in it's place if it gets to hot .... That is just a thought.... Let us know how it works..

Bruce

the copper tube does not eaven come close to the forge. about 3" away from the forge shell. the burner does not tuch the forge but just points into the burner hole. ill post some pictures.

Yeh, Good on ya JT. I ran arouond most of the day and did not get to it. I need to set up a feed system and it should be set. I think it will work great. Much cheaper than straight propane.

Chuck

Cool....I was just over thinking again, seems I do that allot lately. It will pass someday I hope....

Hope it works,let us know,
Bruce

I am curious...Did anybody get to try this yet?......

I think I will be pulling out all the old stuff I had started to build one of these after getting a few sheaths finished and another Bowie done...

Somebody let us know how it works....

Bruce

after dumping oil all over my self, burner, forge and ground i was kinda peved. now i was using a one brick forge as my cast forge is not done yet. after starting with LP i jumped the gun and gave it some oil. it was not hot enought to completley burn the oil. then i ran out of LP and the forge just was smoking. got more LP and let it come up to temp and gave it a little oil. big flames out the frount. the small forge could not burn all the oil befor the flaming drops shot out the frount of the forge :D.

oil was driping out the frount and it was on fire. i relized that the big problem was that i bult this for my big forge so it has a 1" burner tube. but i have to use a bell reducer to make a 1/2" burner tube so that it can fit the small one brick. the oil could not make it out the tube without tuching the sides. it would just pore into it. i have no doubt that this will work in my big forge. i gess im the first one to make a forced air oil burning one brick forge :D.

I told you that would be interesting lol :p

I need to figure a way to atomize the oil before it hits the forge. Any Ideas?? I do not want to add too much more air to do this. If I use a pressure cylinder it might work. Droplets will be too much and not easily controlled.
