Multi fuel forced air.

I can run 3 days forge welding on 20 gallons. My forge is plenty efficient but i would like to explore re-usable fuels. If I can reduce the use of propane by 30-50% it would be great. Also I am intrigued by the heat transfer of luminosity. If that is a good as it seems I could probably get 75% better efficiency.
Bruce, I would be happy to pass it on once I get it going. it will probably be this summer after the Blade Show. Really need to concentrate on MS.

Jim I hope you save that 1/4 and 1/8 od stainless tubing when you can. I sure would like to have some. I can think of lots of uses for it but I am sure you can to.:D

I have a bit around and there is no way to save all the tubing, What would you do with the 1/8" the hole in it is pretty small. Mostly we go thru 1/2 and 3/8 but the guys in the I&E shop use quite a bit of 1/4 on the control valves and what not. Let me know if you want some and I will round you up a bit and mail it,

Well the first thing that comes to mind is mosaic pins. If you use the 1/4 tube as the outside and put 1/8 inside with whatever brass or copper wire will fit in with it and epoxy it all together. Or jest use the 1/8 tube with brass wire inside it.

I know what you mean about not being able to save it all. I worked for a custom av company for a while and we threw away tons of wire. I took home as much as I could. used some in my house and took the rest to the scrap yard. It seamed silly to put hundreds of dollars of copper wire in the dumpster.

Thanks If you could save some up for me I can pay for the shipping. Shoot me a email and let me know.

That would be cool Chuck...

Good Luck with the MS. I put mine on hold at the time,When I got sick it made me go past the 3 years allowed before having to do my cut and bend again so now I am just going to concentrate on getting back in the shop and making knives and later on I will go for my MS...

The tubing we use is pretty heavy walled. Makes good thong tubes. But hard to get much stuff inside for mosaic

Thanks Bruce,

I am trying to get in before the 3 yr myself. I had to retest for my JS for going over the Time limit. I will be going back one way or another. I may as well try to get the fit and finish knives done. The worst that will happen is I get some great feedback from some very talented Master Smiths. Still won't make the waiting any easier.

I know what you mean....WHen that door closses untill they call your name can seem like a eternity...I am sure you will do just fine and get your MS without any problems.

I was thinking about this thread and someones comment about using compressed air to push the oil into the nozzle. A light came on from work. We never ever put compressed air into oil lines. Never. We do use nitrogen. The reason you should never pressurize a line or vessel with compressed air is combustion, just like a diesel cylinder. Used oil could be worse because of fine metal suspension causing the oil to be more pryophoric. If you take one of the burners from our huge furnaces out to clean it the junk in the tube will often self ignite on contact with the atmosphere. PLEASE BE CAREFUL with oil and compressed air. If you were to partially fill a small air tank with some diesel or kerosene and pressure it up with compressed air it may well detonate on you.

Welcome lemalon.
Fill out your profile so we know where you live and a bit about you.

This is a 18-year-old discussion. Almost all the participants are not here anymore. JT was a new maker back then. Look at the dates before resurrecting an old thread.

I think most everyone gave up on oil burners and uses propane now. If anyone still uses one, maybe they will start a new thread about it.
