Multi Knife Systems

For my only multi knife system I dont have a Becker, not big enough for the kind of chopping I like so I got something a little different, keep in mind Im the kind of guy that would take a sledgehammer to kill a mosquito.

Survival pouch, sling is roughly 200' of paracord,Buck Paclite (might get replaced with an 11),kydex sheath I made, not sure where this idea came from but I needed something dependable so I put this together

Last pic to show some dimensions.

Absolutely,at 1/2" thick I dont think prying will ever be a problem, unless its rusty tank tracks, the handle isnt big enough for both my hands but if i put the lanyard on bottom hand i can easily swing with 2 hands, the force is immense...

I saw your thread on that bad boy a week or so ago, that thing is truly a monster of a blade

My 3 go-to knives are a Spyderco Tenacious folder (EDC), a BK15 (for carving, food prep, just about anything), and the BK4 for wood processing.

I'm trying to refine my technique with the 9, the good strikes I'm getting sink deep but I don't have as accurate strike placement as I do with an axe or a hatchet. and for what its worth the 16 has my endorsement.

Its interesting, when I compared the BK9 and the hatchet side by side, I was the reverse (more accurate with the BK9). But I freely admit that I have relatively little experience with hatchets, and basically none with an axe. Are there any good links out there that teach you really good axe technique? My parents cabin needs an axe, but to be honest none of us really have any experience.

And the BK16 has been on my birthday/christmas list since they hit the streets. I'm in school right now and am in my last semester of grad tuition, so I'm holding of on purchasing one for a while until I start a real job and have "grown up" person money. Until then... I just enjoy the photos of the ones I see on here :).

Hey ocn, these are good, from the Forest Service.

this is two in one video. Axe use starts at about 30 min in.

Also google "hand tools for trail work", also from the Forest Servive.

These do a really good job of teaching you basic technique ^good info in here. I learned by using an axe everey day pretty much non stop for weeks on end. A lot of it is just breaking down your technique and slowly making every swing count. Eventually you get faster. I basically had the inverse problem, lots of experience with axes and hatchets, and not much with a large knife.

Sounds like an old, time tested method- "The Nessmuk Trio". Hatchet, fixed blade knife, and a small folder for detailed work. Personally, I would pack a small 3 or 4 inch fixed blade over a folder, but that's me.

Exactly..... I am terrible at chopping with a knife.... thus my strong affection for the 4..... it chops like a hatchet as opposed to the 9 where I miss, sink the blade and wrestle it out. I've gone from terrible to just bad with the 4. But I'm devoted to it and think it's a great replacement for the small hatchet in a trio.

I need to try a 4 one of these days...

I've been looking for a workhorse to accompany my Izula II for a long time. Ive edc'd the crap outta my little fixed blade for a long, long time and for me the 9 complements it perfectly. Izula is great for my more precise and smaller work and the 9 is for cutting swathes through anything and anything i need. It's a great combo IMO.

Sorry for the crappy quality

Yep that ought'a do just about anything you need within reason :D

Whenever my dad and I go out collecting firewood, it has been axes and hatchets, mostly. Since I have the 14, that also joined our trips. Works like a charm.
I don't have a large blade (yet) but would like to experiment. I'm turning 23 next week so... who knows :D. No seriously, the 16 and 9 are on my to get list but I'm not quite sure how long it will take to finish that list.

Large blades take some getting used to (at least in my experience) if you're used to axes and hatchets but I'm starting to get pretty handy with my 9 its just a matter of training new muscle memory. I think the 14 you have, the 16 and the 9 are my favorite Becker's (possibly because they are my only Becker's but I digress) they are at least the three that grabbed my attention most.

Probably, but I wouldn't mind finding that out!

They grab my attention the most too, that's why they'll be the first Beckers for me to get next. Although the D2 Eskabar might alter that plan :D
