Munky's Thousand Post Giveaway

Train your brain! Try this:

Look for four leaf clovers whenever in a clover patch. Keep at it. Practice. After a while (years?) you will be able to spot them on the run and four leaf clovers will be everywhere!

Now, think of whatever it is you want to see in the woods and replace four leaf clover in your brain with whatever you are looking for. Wow!

Works GREAT for camouflaged snakes when in the bush! When living in N. Ga I would commonly see over twenty snakes at a time right off my driveway that no one else could see until I pointed them out.

If you are ever in the woods, in the middle of nowhere, and need to find help, hike 100 yards away from the water, dig a cathole next to a stump or a tree, drop pants and begin to evacuate your bowels. Guaranteed, mid-loaf, a MossyOak clad local will pop out of the bush and engage you in conversation.:p

Learn to make vessels out of Birtch Bark , they can really be handy for collecting water and forage in a situation gone primative. Also practice these skills until they become familiar.

I make all kinds of sheaths by heating PVC pipe in my kitchen oven at 300-325 degrees for about 5 to 10 minutes. When it begins to deform let it go about a minute longer and take out of oven wearing gloves because it will be very hot. Squish slightly between two pieces of plywood or 2 x 6 wood and insert knife blade quickly, stand on wood squishing knife blade inside PVC and waiting about a minute or so for pvc to harden. Do this quickly because it will harden very quickly after you remove from the oven.

PVC can be bought by the foot at most hardware stores and my average cost is usually about a $1.00 per sheath. If you screw it up don't worry about it. Just put the PVC back in the oven, wait for it to soften again, it will try to go back to it's original round shape, when soft just repeat the molding process. You can repeat this step over and over until you get the technique down pat.
It is not smelly to the oven and will not stink up the house or oven as long as you keep the heat low in the 300 to 325 range so the PVC does not burn.

These sheaths work fantastic for machetes and bigger blades especially. For axe covers just split the pvc pipe lengthwise and fold over the axes edge. Use a piece of bike inner tube to keep the axe cover on. PVC makes a great chain saw bar cover much more heavy duty than the ones you buy made from thin plastic. These sheaths will last forever.

If you glue a straight piece of pvc near the throat of the sheath it can be used to support a frog to make a belt holder for the sheath. Cut small round pieces of PVC in half lengthwise, heat and squish to make any size flat piece you need. You can use scrap leather or an old leather or nylon belt to make a frog that will slide over the sheath and is interchangeable amongst the different blade sheaths, especially if yu make the frog adjustable using snaps or velcro. Use your imagination. You can also use a piece of bicycle inner tube that slides over the sheath and use a piece of an old belt riveted or sewn over the inner tube as a belt loop.

That is a great looking little knife that I would put to good use if I was lucky enough to win. Thank you for the opportunity.

The best way to apply color in art is to start with the middle shade, then build the shadow starting darkest to lightest and then reapply the middle color in thin sheets, it gives it depth and also a nice smooth transition- this is the only way to "paint" with a marker

A small depression beneath your fire will help group your coals , the walls of this depression or fire pit should slope gradually, if they are too steep they will steal the heat.

Make the most important part of your survival kit(knife in my opinion) a part of your body. It needs to be lashed or holstered to you. You can take a fall, flip your boat, etc and all that nice stuff in your pack is gone, but when you come to....you still have that piece of equipment that you need most

fire straws- take a straw cut it to the length you want, heat (don't burn :)) one end w/ a match and then mash closed w/ a set of pliers- fill w/ PJCB (petroleumjellycottonballs) my stuffing it w/ a toothpick- leave room at the opposite end- heat and mash

you now have a waterproof, very potent- firestarter

I always keep a couple in my match safe

use your imagination- you can use sealed straws for a variety of items that you want protected from the elements or don't want spilled in your kit

Never give up !!!

great advise!

on that note: no matter what situation you're in, good or bad, if you are in the right frame of mind you'll get through it as best you can....if you're negative about your race, you wont win....if you panic when you fall out of your canoe and loose all your supplies to the river, then you're probably not going to live long..........the mind is a powerful thing, use it!

Ivory does float, I used to think its had to do with the fat content (as an emulsifier) but it is because of air mixed into the soap, then Ivory advertise it as so pure it floats, but what they don’t tell is its very alkaline (and can burn skin). To wash very dirty hands outdoors, reach down into the stream/river bottom and grab a handfull of sand/dirt and scrub your hands with the sandy dirt. Sand is an abrasive and should remove dirt, dead skin cells and debris, and your not adding anything toxic to the environment.

I have never tried it in a real survival situation but I have often thought of putting a few guitar picks in my BOB as some are made of celluloid and are crazy flammable ,they smoke really bad like model glue (don`t ask) but they are light, small and pretty cheap but they burn pretty quickly. Cool contest thanks for the chance to learn neat stuff and maybe win something made for a reason.

Some good stuff.

Here's a little teaser.
