I'm in! What do I like best about the porch?......The Give-Aways of course!!!!!!! :);)
Thanks for your generosity!

Great idea for a giveaway, Randy! Very generous of you. Thanks to you and Derrick both!

I first came here about 10 years ago. I'd been carrying one handers, but they didn't really suit my cutting needs, lifestyle, or sense of self. Or maybe they did at the time, but my sense of self was in flux and evolving. Back then Gus and Elliot were in charge here, and Carl was just starting to write his stories. I came seeking expertise on the kind of knives I'd see my grandpa carry, and in fact about that time I'd received one of his Old Timers when he passed away (8OT).

The more I learned about the rich history of traditional knives and their manufacture, the more I wanted to stay and learn even more. It made me feel connected to my grandpa, and ancestors that came before him. I felt that I got a small window of insight from Better understanding the tools they used and the ways they used them. So learning was definitely a part of it--but only a part.

What has really kept me here is the great camaraderie and friendships that have developed. The Porch is an amazing group of people who give freely of their time and of themselves to share not just knife history but also true friendship and life experience. Many of us find ways of being involved in one another's lives that are more than just virtual. Reading about, and also being a part of, what goes on here refreshes my faith in the human heart and often makes me want to be a better person.

Randy, congrats on your first 1000 posts, and keep up the good work! ;) Please count me in.

The best thing I like about the porch is the willingness of the more experienced and knowledgeable members to help the rest of us with questions we have. The giveaways are just another example of the real reason we all like it here . . . people care about each other. It is becoming increasingly rare in everyday life, but is commonplace here on the porch. What a special place!

Excellent GAW Randy. Like Sarah said, keys to the candy store with lots of options from KSF for sure. Very generous of you. I was happy to join the forum a year ago. I've learned a lot, had some great interactions, obtained some great knives and have had lots of laughs. Thanks everyone! (I'm in)

Im in. Congrats on the 1000 post. I like the knowledgeable people and the great pics of knives.

I'm in!
I LOVE the atmosphere here. This place remains calm, cordial, and inviting even in the midst of the occasional rabble rouser.

Thank you for sharing your generosity. Also, thanks to Derick for pitching in on this one.

Congrats on the post count, and what a generous GAW!

Other than the fantastic community, I love hanging out on the porch for the wealth of information, and the chance to enjoy (vicariously) so many different and wonderful knives that the members post up and talk about. I lurk more than I post, but the day isn't done unless I've caught up on a few of the threads here on the porch.

Thanks again for the chance Randy.

Congrats on the big 1 0 0 0 and thank you for the generous giveaway!

I'm mainly here for the giveaways. ;) :p :D Just joking but there sure are some generous folks here. I've been reading bladeforums for long enough to see a few cutlery companies close and new ones open or reopen... and to see interests and popular forum topics change. I know a few of you well enough to guess what knives you will and won't like. And there are a lot of new members that I'm just meeting. There is still no better group of folks to hang out with and talk about traditional knives.

Randy,
Congratulations on Your 1000 post.
Your G.A.W. is very thoughtful and generous from You and Derrick.
I'm In.
What I like about the porch is that most of us remember that the traditional knife
had a meaning of responsibility when we were younger. We still see it from members
when they talk about what knife they are going to give to younger people.
I think that meaning is a small part of what brings us together.

Wow! What a great GAW.
What always draws me to the porch is the information that so many of you have about the subject of traditional knives. It's one thing to see all of the beautiful pictures of the various knives produced by the many cutlery makers, but a whole other world when the histories and functionalities of different designs/frames are discussed. What I just mentioned just scrapes the surface of the involvement and depth of "traditional knives." I suppose if I continued learning and lived to be a hundred, I would still end up being a just a rookie.

Congrats on being part of the community and good your 1000 snidbits of contribution! I'm in. What's not to like about the porch!? The nice folks, interested topics, the knives, and not least of all the lack of profanity in this sub forum since we are all such classy gents and gals :)

Oh, and if I win, I'm totally using it towards the new northwoods fixed blade, would be my first gaw win, here's hoping!

Randy,
Very generous of you. Congrats on 1,000 posts. I just started last year and didn't think I'd hit 100. You started last year too I see. Well done Sir. I only visit the traditionals section. I recognize avatars as people I know as if faces. ( I really need to figure out how to put one up for myself). I love the photography skills here. This section is great so why go elsewhere. Randy you've done so much since you started here. You are an inspiration to me. Count me in please.

Hey Randy!, Well done my friend, now...I have been the recipient of SO MUCH kindness and gifting that I simply cannot enter into this fantastic giveaway- but can I say that ever since you have arrived my friend - you have been MOST welcome Sir.

I'm in too, just for fun.
Saying what I found in this porch may seem slavish flattery, but there's a friendly atmosphere not necessarily found on other forums. I don't know another place with so many GAWs.
But the core is of course the lot of knowledge shared by members besides the same lot of curiosity. When I came here, all I knew about trad US knives were Buck and Case.
Since I discovered GEC, Winchester, Schrade and SFOs. My wallet cries I should never have known this place, but my heart and my brain smile thinking just the opposite.

Im NOT in Randy, but just wanted to say thank you for such a kind gesture, very kind of you.

Have a great week

Paul

Very kind Randy, and thank you for many interesting and decent contributions.

NOT an entry thank you as I feel others need a shot at it!

Regards, Will
