My 3 week old Strider SMF has lock rock!

From your previous posts I thought you were satisfied with it. Oh well if it develops lock rock only out $ 57. of entertainment, so far seems tight.

I always stated it developed lock rock from merely flipping it. I gave up on CRKT long ago, the Erasure flips great looks great, the one I have has a weak lock.Damn thing started out locking up early, then it goes all the way nearly across the blade tang. I've had no luck out of CRKT, they look great and have no substance IMO.

Jill Jackson, I'm more a frame lock type so the thin liner lock and what you have said relegates this knife to house and light duties only. Sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Well, good because in my experience you won't be happy with CRKT offerings for much else.

this is why ive been hesitant to buy anymore framelocks, even high quality ones can slip.

Yeah, I had a Sebenza that developed play in the lock. But...

1. It took 15 years of use to happen
2. CRK fixed it under warranty at no cost

So, I would say this: not all framelocks are created equal.

Framelocks are not the ultimate that's pretty well been proven. They look good, work good and offer a decently solid lock when used with common sense. But, they sure aren't the very strongest locks available.

I have two SnGs and they are flawless and rock solid. Both new buys.

I know there's a lot of Strider hate on these forums. It even kept me from buying one in the past. I'd just like to say that was a mistake. I've had Striders and CRKs, etc, and I'll take a Strider anyday over the overpriced, overhyped Sebenza. Heck, I'd take a Spyderco over one.

I don't think the OP said he was going to get rid of his Strider. He said he got the typical one where you appear to have gotten lucky with your two.

Give it a bit of time and they'll develop some lock slip. You say that Sebenzas are overhyped and overpriced but at least they're designed correctly. I've owned both and the Sebenza never once had any lock rock but the lock on my SNG slipped like no other. I still enjoyed using my SNG and I really like the design of the knife but their lock geometry really needs work, especially at the price they charge.

They did change the lockup on the newer Striders, I have had an SMF since last June with perfect lockup. I have a lot of frame locks too and I'm as pleased with it as any. In fact the entire knife is very well done. Maybe mine is the exception. But I've heard others say they are as happy with theirs as I am. I bought it out of curiosity after hearing so much about them for years, just to see for myself, I figured I could sell it if I didn't like it and I've kept it.

Don't bother trying to help the Strider fan....he drank the Kool-Aid ..it's too late.

I'm always surprised how emotional people get over these knives.
Honestly, I could care less if someone thinks my knife is an overpriced piece of garbage. It is my money to spend as I please. You can buy whatever you want with your money. It's amazing how that works. I'm not the federal government, so I can't force to buy or not buy anything.

Let us all keep in mind that knives are inanimate objects. There are a lot worse things in this world to be upset about.

Why so much Strider hate? I know they aren't Spyderco but why all the hate? Is it because of the owner of the company?

I think it's just that a lot of people have noticed the knives have lock rock.

Even if the owner is a dishonorable douche, I don't think that automatically turns simple observations of fact into "hate" somehow. Every SnG I've ever handled had lock rock, so I find it reasonable to believe that it's either a normal feature, or at least a highly frequent feature, of that knife model and manufacturer.

Guess I am lucky... This SnG is perfect...

I would send it in. Can you turn it backwards and take a pic of the lock face? If you want to take it apart and tension it yourself you can borrow my spanner. You might email josh@striderknives.com and see what he says.

First of all Strider does not mention anything about not wanting to deal with USPS on their website:
http://www.striderknives.com/products/index.php?main_page=shippinginfo

But using FedEx would cost me (living in The Netherlands aka Holland) between 95 and 155 USD. On top of that I need to include "25.00 USD for return shipping and handling (check, MO, Bank check)".

I'm sure you can understand that I do not have the guts to buy 500+ USD (excluding international shipping) production knife that is famous for it's issues and probably sooner or later has to be sent back. Has nothing to do with "hate", just reason.

@ohioan: I would suggest to ask your money back under warranty from the store you bought it from if that's possible or sell it on the exchange and sign up for the second batch of Jake Hoback's Midtech Kwaiback: http://www.jakehobackknives.com/ :) For 425 USD I guess it will blow your SMF out of the water :)

To the guys who have had lock rock on their striders, has the lock ever disengaged while usage? Mine have minor lock rock too, but have never disengaged on me. I dont mind it as long as the knife locks.
