My 3 week old Strider SMF has lock rock!

I understand that. I was asking if people didn't like the knives. I have been intrigued by them for a long time but stayed away because of a lot of people chiming in on quality issues. I finally decided to take the chance and see for myself.

Fair enough. I owned a couple, an SNG and an SMF, some years back when I was selling and trading to pay the rent. I didn't like them and didn't miss them when they were gone. They were bulky, uncomfortable and fell far short on fit and finish. The only positives were that they were easy to sell and got some silly stares from NKP co-coffee drinkers when I met the buyer of one at a local Starbucks. I suspect that tiger-striped, flamed titanium "bad-ass" appearance is what sells most of them. I much prefer the simple goodness of a Sebenza or Military for my big knife duties and if I need to stab a car hood or chop through cinder blocks I have my CS GI Tanto. Built tough for the job and cheap to replace.

I wouldn't buy one for years either, until I started to read the lock-up was changed and the fit and finish was excellent on the newer models. I did call and have a dealer check and make sure the blade was centered and I was getting one with the new lock up. I was not in the least disappointed, my SMF is excellent and I have many knives to compare it to.

I never had problems with my SnG's.
As I said before, I favor the SnG on the design alone, it's a perfect folder design. And, it took me too long to realize this about a folder but I now see a folder as a tool. Basic utility is a given but IF I have to use my folder for an extreme situation(s), I want it to not fail.

I sent my SMF to the spa on Tuesday. Should get there Monday. Hopefully it won't be there too long.

Probably. Heard they don't like getting stuff from USPS though. I'm in no big hurry. It does have to travel 3/4 of the way across the country.

My SMF came back to me today! SKI put in a new stop pin, and adjusted the lock bar tension. It locks up at a clean 10-15%, and is super tight. I'm happy to have it back, and can't wait to put it to work.

Bottom line, Strider made it right. I love this knife, and the ergos of the Strider line.

I sent my sng to strider with a detailed note, stated I wanted 3 things done.(& $25 check)
Lock up is very late, please fix.
Lock is sticky (since I have owned it) please fix
Resharpen the blade ( only because I'm reselling it )please fix

It came back with a crap load of grease in the pivot, and it was Resharpened. THAT IS IT!
They didn't do anything else. Over the past 2 weeks I sent them several emails asking what we can do to fix this problem.
NO RESPONSE.

I will never buy a strider again, this life time warranty that everyone talks about is BS.
It's a damn shame they got banned from blade forums so maybe they could come up with a lame excuse for this piss poor customer service and crappy knife.:thumbdn:
Then again now I see why they aren't on here anymore.

That's sucks. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Not a big deal , I had to vent. If the gentle man that was interested in buying this after I was supposed to have it fixed, but didn't. Doesn't want it, I'll be doing a GAW with my SNG. Bad mojo.

Glad they did you right:thumbup:

I've had several with no issues. One that did was my own fault. I acid etched it and did a poor job of it. It effected opening and closing. Sent one email to Strider. They told me to send it in. Some time later I received it back with an upgraded blade replacement and it didn't cost me a thing.

Good folks in my book.

This is funny because just a few months ago it seemed like EVERYBODY on this forum was saying Strider now has excellent fit/finish with no issues.

First, for a company to sell a knife for that kind of money and not insure every single one is as near perfect as possible is unacceptable.

Second, a dealer/distributor selling a knife at these prices and with the bad reputation without inspecting every single one to insure quality is unacceptable.

Third, an end user buying one of these knives after hearing the reports regarding quality and poor service deserves no sympathy when things go south. They just gotta figure it's the price of admission to the "in" crowd.

You hurt their feelings when you let them know you were selling it (see bold/italic above). For being the hairy he-man knuckle draggers they are they're a touch sensitive about criticism.

I'm selling it for a discounted price to a gentleman on this forum, all problems have been discussed.
I guess my expectations where to high, I said what I needed to say, I'm moving on and it has been a learning experience for me.

I never told them I'm selling it on the detailed message to them.

Lock is late is not a warranty problem.
Lock is sticky is very normal with frame locks. Break it in.

If lock up was solid I personally don't see any problem with your knife.
