My 6 was too pretty...

I like GB but they are in no way worth the price you have to pay for them now. Too many other offerings out there that are very good and a LOT less money. Think about it, 160 dollars for their mini? That's way too high.

I read somewhere (I'm pretty sure it was the Axe forum here) that the Wetterlings has a much better heat temper than the Condors. Of course the G.B.'s are at the top of the heap from what I read.

Seems Condor is revamping the whole axe line. I'm looking forward to see what comes of them. If they're good and cheaper, they have a winner. If they're as good as a Wetterlings and the same price as a Wetterlings, it's going to be a tough market.

$160 Bucks for their mini? Yeah, that's insane!
I've seen the Wetterlings camp axe's going for around $75. I also read the Husqvarna is a re-badged Wetterlings, albeit not finished as well, and have found the Husqvarna on the auction site going for around $40.
I'm still researching camp axes for now.

I'm anxiously awaiting the condor line. I like the looks of the them although I haven't handled them. Most of the old SA axes we've used in Peru have been pretty good as far as the steel goes. Anyway, if the Condors are any good and the price is right then they will get my thumbs up for sure!

They look pretty good but it’s kind of like online dating. They go through a couple hundred pictures to find the one that will get you to pay for it. :D

My thing is finding that combo of tools that is versatile, compact enough to carry in my pack without sacrificing size to a point that it isn’t useable. The Condor line for example, is the little 10” Scout version enough or for the extra 6” would the 16” be a better choice? Decisions decisions.

Any thoughts on Estwing axes/hatcets? I have the leather handled sportsman for a few years. It doesnt get much use. The truth is when it comes to useing the thing I stink at it. I geuss I need more practice. I never heard of using aknife to baton until a couple years ago. I think it might of been on here. Started batoning knives just because it seemed easier than using the hatchet. Maybe I need to rethink this.

I've battoned 2x4's on campouts and at home to make kindling when there were no small sticks around. Found that my Hawk with it's 16oz head works much better, same with my hatchets. Now adays I carry the hawk or an axe for splitting, less effort on my part. ;)

But I still don't mind watching someone else use their energy that way. I just think "wouldn't an axe/hatchet/hawk be faster?".

I'll be getting 4 each of the Scout and the Woodworker. When I do inspection on them I'll take photos of every one of them so you guys can get an idea of the quality spread. Anything that doesn't meet my QC standards will be going back for replacement anyway, so that's why I'll be checking. :)

That would be great. I’d like to see how they come out of the box and how they hold up to beating on some hardwoods.

Any idea when you'll see those?

As far as their last estimate was concerned I think it'll be about 4 weeks before they're ready to ship from El Salvador. :o

Mike Perrin felt sorry for me today and bought me a GB mini while he was at Smoky Mountain setting up our display case ;)

she buys him an axe!

Amen brother. I've heard of a couple ESEE nerds bumping in to Mike at SMKW. That's pretty cool. One of our members here said something like "You sure do know a lot about these knives." Then the cat was out of the bag. :D

Boy this thread really took a turn. First it was about batoning, then baton twirling, now Mike and Jeff's bromance. I'm going to go pump some iron, eat a rare steak and build something to help wash the gay of this thread off.

I love this place.

Well, wait until you see the pics of the white women I'll be posting up directly. That will get your mind off of being gay for a while.
