My benchmade has been lost, and i need a new knife

New update, my budget has just increased to 250, got my tax return back (heck yes) from working this summer, so have at it, or recomend a good sharpening system.

i was looking at an apex or a work sharp if i got sharpening stuff

seems to me the worksharp is more useful for a wider range of uses though

A few knives to consider:

Zero Tolerance 0350CB ZDP-189 - $170
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 M390 - $175
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 S30V - $100
Zero Tolerance 0550/0551 - $200
Benchmade 915 Triage - $105

well right now, I have it narrowed down to a few.....unless someone comes up with another knife that I would be interested in

Benchmade 710
benchmade 950
Spyderco military
spyderco para 2

or a a barrage

Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Love mine! If you want something a bit more special, get he M390 version with the Blue G10 handles. It will still fit in your budget.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the BM 581. Barrage on steriods plus a M390 blade. Has been my favorite BM that has come out in a long time.

If your budget increased to $250 you might be a able to find a used small sebenza on the for sale forum here

whenever I get a sebenza, I will get a large.

right now, i am leaning toward getting a benchmade 710 and an edgepro apex

The 710 is a really big folder. If it were me, I'd just get a fixed blade. Something like an Izula-II comes with a plastic sheath with great retention. You could belt carry that and be confident it won't come out of your pocket with your keys. I am just moving more and more towards fixed blades myself. They seem to make more sense in a lot of ways. Don't get me wrong, I love the 710 and the AXIS lock is my favorite lock system for folders. I just find the simplicity and strength (and generally lower pricing) of fixed blades more appealing.

I realize its a big folder, I was carrying a barrage 580 before this, i would love to carry a fixed blade, but I am currently in college, and i cant carry fixed blades or folders over 4 inch blade on campus (and i live on campus). i have an eskabar already that i carry when i am home though.

I have been leaning toward benchmade for the axis lock, i got my first taste of it on the barrage and love it

by the way, does anyone have a side by side picture of the barrage next to a 710?

by the way, i have really been liking 3-4 inch blade lengths for carry (folder).

So, i actually forgot about a knife that I like by Benchmade, I like the Pardue 530....except that the handle seems very thin and feels fragile. Does anyone make aftermarket scales out of a slightly heavier materialS

I have a 530 and while it is lightweight, it's pretty tough for what it's made for: light-duty cutting. Have you tried the Kulgera? If you like it, I have one for sale :)

I just looked up the Kulgera I like it, how much are you asking and where are you located (I want to meet in person whenever buying anything used)

well, i figured yall might want an update.

i have decided to say screw it and get a sebenza even though I dont have the money for it. I have wanted one since the first time that i saw one, so, i figure what the hell, i will have one eventually anyways

I will probably buy new, unless i can find a person that i can meet in person to buy from, even then i may still go with new.

I am running through smokey Mountain Knife works over spring break (drive through the area) and i will stop and see if there have any (as they are listed as dealers, but i kinda doubt they will have any)

If I dont get it then, then I will order it (that will be fun explaining to my mother why my checking account has that charge on it, but i dont care)

so thats that unless something major changes

PS: if i decide go used, what do i need to look for condition wise?

Not much..pretty much personal preference if you want the knife in great condition. Used makes you feel less bad about using it though.
