My benchmade has been lost, and i need a new knife

dang it....every time i bump this thread and think that i know what i am gonna get someone recommends something I havent seen before and I start thinking about it instead

I still like my sebenza Idea a lot, but now I am stuck between that and getting an edgepro apex and a benchmade of some sort...... GAH!!!!!

well at Smokey mountain knife works i will be able to handle a bunch of stuff, should help me decided......for now i will keep carrying my case cheetah until then

Benchmade 710 or Spyderco Military. Both "must have folders."

Let me add to the confusion for you. Benchmade 707, Ritter Grip, or any of the mini Grips, Spyderco Delica.

Don't rule out the Sharpmaker for your sharpening needs. Combined with a strop and the xfine rods it's quite capable. That and a Para2/Milli will set you back about $200 and you will have an unbeatable package.

Looked at a sharp maker, edgepro, and worksharp (which would be nice for my machetes etc...).

I like the edgepro, since the sharp maker depends on me holding the knife vertical.....if I am gonna take the time to learn how to hold the blade vertical, I will take the time to learn freehand.

I am currently using freehand stones with a ceramic rod touch up at the end and I can get decent edges, but nothing as sharp as I want. so I read reviews and like the edgepro

well right now, I have it narrowed down to a few.....unless someone comes up with another knife that I would be interested in

Benchmade 710
benchmade 950
Spyderco military
spyderco para 2

or a a barrage

New update, my budget has just increased to 250, got my tax return back (heck yes) from working this summer, so have at it, or recomend a good sharpening system.

i was looking at an apex or a work sharp if i got sharpening stuff

seems to me the worksharp is more useful for a wider range of uses though

Well, I have owned the large Barrage and (ith all due respect) the 710 will make it feel like junk when you compare them. Trust me. The Military is a real featherweight and lots of blade + handle room for big hands or allowing various grips. I still have my 710 & Military but sold the Barrage since it felt chintzy like a Griptilian. The Millie is the first knive I got to whittle hair by freehand sharpening (a milestone) - so it's not going anywhere.

I've bought and sold 4 large 21 Sebenzas. I always hanker for one and then it arrives, I don't carry it - opens and closes too slow and scuffs up really easily. I wish CRk made a stonewash version of the handle. They are nice but I like to crack my folders open once in awhile and you just can't do it very well with the Sebenza.

Spyderco Caly 3.5 - carries small but has a full 3.5" of blade.

I bought the 580 because the griptilian felt like that compared to the barrage 580. If what your saying is true......crap.....i'm gona want more.....I'm a broke college student, between blade forums and tacomaworld.....I keep buying too much stuff and have no money

I am in the same situation as you, although i did not lose a knife i am in the market for a new folder in the 175-300 dollar price range MAX. I am going to the Jersey City show on Friday March 3rd, i am hoping to find a Barrage 581 which i am highly interested in, or perhaps the Benchmade 951 Rift which also looks interesting. I am a retired LEO and have not purchased a good knife in about 12 years. Still own the GERBER i bought 15 years ago, although it could use a good cleaning and blade sharpening/replacement. Anyhow i hope I find something nice in my price range at the show.

take a look at all the suggestions people gave me on this thread, I dont think that I saw one suggestion that wont be a good knife, just look for one that fits the criteria that you want.

I for one keep looking at a bunch of different knives, including a sebenza, but I keep going back to the benchmades with the axis lock. If you get a chance to handle one, they are great. I originally went from a liner lock to my benchmade. took me 2 days to get used to it, and now i like it more than the others that I have used

Yea, thanks. I am hoping the prices are good at the show and I may find 2 of the knives i want for that 300 bucks, LOL. We will see. If anything i will buy a folder and look for a smallish fixed blade for the belt, again thanks a million.

If you want to actually handle the knives before you make the decision, which I think is a good thing to do whenever possible, you could consider making a trip over to New Graham Pharmacy in Bluefield, VA. They have and excellent reputation and they are only about 1 1/2 hours from Blacksburg. You can check out their website if you want to get an idea of what they carry - it's quite a bit.

If I have time i will, I actually live in bristol, but I am in school at VT in blacksburg. I go south on 81 to get to Louisiana (where I am going for spring break) and Smokey Mountain Knife Works is on my way, so I will stop there for sure

I would pickup a Kershaw Skyline blem from Kershawguy to tide you over.

It's my favorite carry knife.

If you want to pickup something that literally no one else has, try to find the Surefire Charlie. The prices are coming down on them and not many people have them. I have the Dart and it is very well constructed.

Just trying to muddy the water some more haha.

How about the new Adamas from Benchmade.

Ivan M - at $300 you're in the used ;g. Sebenza neighborhood. Once you score one, you can use it all you want and always send it to CRK and for about $60 they'll refurbish it like brand new. Just don't buy a scratched up blade. They're out ther on the exchange if you're patient. :)
