Weight is around 15-20 lbs depending on water and additional gear (clothing)
I dont mind having a little extra ammo, its kind of hard to make it in the woods ;) and Im thinking a little longer than just a few days (its also my bug out bag)

Now that is pretty cool for a BOB idea. Any details on the kind of vest? I was thinking the same thing for something lite yet not as bulky as a pack.

I think it might be a molle vest of some sort with pouches attached to it?

I love my M6, but it is a lot of extra weight to hump. I did a long weekend in Arizona this summer and am planning on relegating it to a trunk gun if I come across something lighter. Not sold on the AR7 that Henry is making right now.
Other than my.02 looks like a nice set up.

Mike

nice little set up its good to be prepared though in there a 3 ft piece of surgical rubber tubing to gather water ,use for fire starter as tourniquet etc etc that is if you don,t have one i did not see it so i just put that in very nice little over under a 22 hornet will take deer and what ever else you might come across:D

Maybe I missed it, but did you include salt?
Map(s) of area?
Extra insulation layer(s)?

If water is an issue and if you prowl the same general area, you could cache water in 2 ltr. pop bottles.

Looks like an excellent kit, all the bases covered and then some. Is your RAT 3 modified? Looks customized in your photo. By the way I am EXTREMELY jealous of where you live!

Redudancy is nice but that sounds really too much:
2 guns...
5 knives...
5 fire means...
3 bandannas...
storm sacks redundant to pockets...
etc

Hell, you could probably ditch some of this and get enough room for a light sleeping bag or a blanket that would serve you better.
or replace the bivy bag with a real breathable bivi bag.
or a light stove.
or simply spare some weight...

Char cloth is nice to catch sparks but it won't replace long burning tinder such as vaseline soaked cotton balls. Candles are a nice addition too.

Looks good! Do you keep anything on your body if you have to dump the vest?

Yeah, I agree. I'd trade the .40 S&W and at least three of those knives for more food, better shelter, warmer clothing (fleece, gore-tex jacket, pants) or a stove. And I'd trade the M6 for an AR-7.

Spend five days in the Sierras without resupply and cover fifty miles (that's only ten miles a day) - you'll probably re-assess your BOB. Just my opinion - maybe you've got a reason for that .40 S&W like wandering up on a meth lab or something. But generally speaking a good tent will keep you alive longer than a handgun.

And again, I would also like to get some more info about the vest (brand/type and where you can get one)

Nice setup! But I would also ditch some gear (knives) and add some more food/water or waterfilter

Thanks
CZ

You have more stuff than I do!:) I too think you should give up some redundancy. The two RATs and one multitool should be enough for anything you throw them at. The guns, I just never got the M6. Get a 10/22, a light stock and aluminum barrel then you have a super light hunting rig. The handgun, that's up to you. I would carry the handgun over the M6 and carry some light ammo to do emergency hunting with. A .357 is my choice so you have something that is marginal on bears/dear but can go with .38's for small game.

Wade, I see your line of thinking regarding the +/- of M6 vs Ar7. I have both, I like the Ar7 for it's semi-auto capability and it's light weight. It is however thicker (thus it takes up more room in the pack). The benefit of the shotgun barrel is nice, but for larger game the pistol will do you almost as much good. It's your pack, and you tote the weight so that makes all opinions subjective.

One poster mentioned running up on a meth lab (or perhaps a pot field), having two semi-auto options would be nice in that case.

Nice, well thought out gear selection. Rock on Wade!
