I was just going through a bunch of my crap tonight at work, while I should have been studying for a zoology exam, of course, and I got to wondering what, if anything, those of you in college carry on you. I am curious about what kind of "survival" stuff has made it in to your backpacks, etc. I will try to post a picture when I get home, but here is a brief run down of what I had in there:

CRKT Get-A-Way Driver
Streamlight Nano
Small 1 man FAK with added Scalpel and Motrin
Gerber Artifact
SAK-Esquire
Gerber Tempo
Smith sharpener
Monadnock Persuader
ASP Key Defender
Zippo

In addition to my EDC blades:
Leatherman Super Tool
SAK Farmer Silver Alox
Schrade Cliphanger

I dont see any survival stuff in your pack other than a bucket full of knives. You carry all that to school and if so why?

Seriously...

I cram quite a bit in my messenger bag when I head to school. I always have a slippie in my pocket Then in my bag

E2D Defender
Small pelican case with:
Meds
Med tape
Bandages
LM Micro
Bandana
Bandaids
Ointment
some other SAK stuff and fire making supplies

I always have 32oz of water in a Nalgene bottle to start off the night (night school since I work all day)
Protien bar

Ony my keys I always have a Vic classic and a small ASP light

On a side note - My professor now carries a folder IWB - not sure what kind. Kind of cool! I'm getting my CJ degree so there are a bunch of like minded people in the class, for the most part.

I carry a slipjoint, locking folder, and fixed blade on my person daily. In my bag I have a few fire steels, a diafold, some lockpicks, and an umbrella. It's still a work in progress since my usual EDC bag is too noticeably knifey. I'll be posting up the contents at some point for you guys to help me pimp out. :D

Thanks for the input

What? You listed a bunch of knives. What do carry besides 10 lbs of metal?

How about a city map and topo of city.
Compass
Whistle
Water
Cord
Bic lighter not zippo
$100 in small notes and change
Leather gloves
N95 flu masks
Alcohol hand sanitizer
Small headlamp
Sunglasses
Ball cap
Windbreaker
warm hat if its cold
sunblock
Energy bars
survival bivi bag

When I was in school, I carried my PSK in my pack, along with the usual pens, pencils, calculator, etc. If anyone ever needed anything, they always asked me, no matter how odd the request, because for some reason I usually had something that would work. They kinda half made fun of me about it, but they weren't too harsh, 'cause they all new they'd used something of mine at some point. The FAK came in pretty handy quite a few times especially when my buddy tried to cut his finger off with a saw...

What? You listed a bunch of knives.Nevermind the FAK, the lights, etc What do carry besides 10 lbs of metalquite the exaggerration, don't ya think??

How about a city map and topo of city. I know the city...a topo of the city? Are you serious?
Compass got one on the keychain
Whistle don't need it
Water I always have some means of procuring water
Cord not necessary
Bic lighter not zippo zippo works just fine
$100 in small notes and change I'M IN COLLEGE...where do you propose I get $100 to just have laying around?
Leather gloves for what?
N95 flu masks no
Alcohol hand sanitizer in the FAK
Small headlamp plus 2 flashlights?
Sunglasses always on my head...
Ball cap up there with the shades
Windbreaker it's Texas
warm hat if its cold see above
sunblock not necessary
Energy bars things are bad for ya...I would just as soon keep my M&M's
survival bivi bag why? what would I possibly need a bivy in class for?
hand warmers still Texas

I listed what is in my frikkin backpack when I am sitting in class...I also asked what kind of stuff other college folk had stuffed in there. I keep my BOB/vehicle kit in the truck. I have plenty of gear for GTFO if necessary. What I carry in the backpack is the crap I need while sitting in class and meetings.

Thanks for the interesting topic. What I usually take to class with me is pretty basic, and some stays in the car.

Usually a folder of some kind--Mini Grip, Delica, Skyline, etc.
Leatherman Juice S2
Fenix L1D
Zippo or a Bic
Cell phone (which has GPS, internet and email capabilities, etc.)
Car charger for cell phone (in the car, obviously)
Some sort of sturdy steel pen/marker of some kind
FAK in the car, sometimes comes into class as well...probably should carry it more often.
Emergency blanket in the car
Ice scraper for the car, as well as jumper cables; I need to get some kitty litter and a compact shovel as well.
Umbrella in car, or with me when needed
Bandana or handkerchief of some kind
Cheapie plastic poncho
I always try to bring a jacket of some kind in case of inclement weather, or car breaking down. Gloves/hat as well in the winter.
Flash drive with some useful information on it
My laptop comes along fairly often
I always have some kind of bottled drink I can refill with water if necessary, and usually some small snacks of some kind if I'm going to be there for a while.
I usually try to have a credit card and a little cash on me as well, just in case.

I'm interested to see what everyone else is taking.

Wow classes must be rough that you need to have 6-8 blades with you.

I think college is a learning process. I hauled a lot of metal that never seen day light for 5 years in school. Didn't mind the weight when I was young. These days, I don't even carry books, just photo copy the pages I need. :)

God Bless

I tend to carry a pretty light load as far as survival equipment goes... Here's the list off the top of my head:

SAK Farmer
Spyderco Stretch (Sometimes switched out for an Izula or a Spyderco Mini-Manix)
Some Paracord
BSA Hot Spark on my keychain
Pliers
Mini-Bic
Nitecore EX10 and a spare battery or two
RC-3 in the backpack in case something does hit the fan badly.

And that's about it. I do need to get a nice little first aid kit put together. That is definitely lacking in my carry. In colder months, I always make sure to wear plenty of layers and appropriate clothing.

I tend to keep it pretty basic around campus, I'm at a small school. I usually just have my Vic Farmer on me; I've never really needed much else, and truth be told, hardly ever needed the Farmer for anything serious (mostly for opening beers).

In the winter I'll have more stuff in my pack (chemical hand warmers, hat and gloves, firesteel, etc.) just in case.

Skammer he listed
"Small 1 man FAK with added Scalpel and Motrin".
So thats a non-knife item.

Clever  If you read the OP, you would have seen that those blades are what I found in my backpack. The obvious exception is, of course, my EDC that I would have on me anywhere, hence the name...

Yea...I have found that I get the most use out of the Get-A-Way Driver and the Leatherman. Of course, the Esquire is just a slightly larger Classic, so it is great for cleaning my fingernails and such while listening to boring lectures on behavioral science...

I just finished grad school in May, so I hope I still count :)

Benchmade Griptilian
BSA Hotspark (I believe - the small firesteel the scouts sell)
Energizer 1-watt LED flashlight
Occasionally, mora clipper or Benchmade Gamer
Small pouch containing:
Heatsheet
Compass (really no reason, I just liked having it)
Few bandaids and aspirin
Jute cord
Couple other odds and ends

The Grip, flashlight, and aspririn and bandaids got some use.

Well I don't really change my EDC, if i'm wearing cargo pants I probably have:

Leatherman Juice
Very small fixed or folder.
Altoids tin PSK. (need it in an urban setting? probably not, but it doesnt weigh much and I have pocket space.)
Bandanna
cell phone
CountyComm "Diplomat Pocket Organizer":
*Rite in the Rain pad
*misc writing implements
*flash drive
*AAA flashlight
*bic mini
*red key chain light
*knife sharpener

Sometimes a more substantial light like my iTP C8

For school I add a Mini FAK on my packstraps.

Full PSK and FAK in the car...

This is what I carry to school everyday:

Water bottle
rain jacket
bicycle repair tools and pump
RAT Izula
Spyderco Swick
Leatherman Juice
Small diamond rod
paracord
Fenix L1D
Bandana
Small ferro rod
spark lite tinder
Garbage bag
zip ties, duct tape
lighter
energy bar
Books, pens, day planner, etc
wallet, phone, keys
Hat

I think thats it :)
