Just a reminder for all you car and truck campers out there -- keep it out of sight. We have had the occasional thief hit our guys for some valuable gear.

They key is to just pile tons of crap in your vehicle to hide the good stuff...at least that's what I tell myself

Wow...you guys carry a ton of stuff. I literally only carry my books/notebooks, a few mechanical pencils and pens, and a calculator. It would be interesting to know where everyone goes and how that comes into play in regards to what they carry in their pack.

For example, I don't feel the need to carry anything (other than maybe a folder) because I go to school at Carnegie Mellon, which is in downtown Pittsburgh (i.e. Oakland). I also commute, and it's only about a half hour away from my house.

P.S. I hope your zoology exam went well :D. I really want to take that class...seems like fun.

There is nothing apealing in my car for any theif -even the car is not worth steeling (knock knock). It is a beaten up 91 olds with over 150k miles. All my good stuff is in the trunk.

Even though it is a beater, I would be pissed if someone stole it. Most kids at my school drive 30K dollar+ cars, so I dont think I am much of a target -especaily with nothing of value inside and in sight.

Thanks for the tip though, it is always good to be aware.

Thanks...i think it did...it seemed much easier than the last one. The class is awesome. The prof is always excited about it and tries to make it relevant for the students. The best thing is that he takes students failing very personally. He will pull you aside and ask how he can assist or teach better. The guy has been teaching it for 30-odd years and still does all that...I am continually impressed.

BTW...this is my 4th class with him. Central Texas Field biology, Ecology of the Pacific Northwest, Botany and now Zoology.

I know this might sound crazy, but I asked for a extra large paper bag from Mc Donalds and store my Maxpedition Jumbo in that in the car (top folded down). I keep it either in the trunk or the footwell of the passenger side.

Great idea!! Looks like trash so I doubt it would be bothered...

Not a problem. It sounds like he has a real passion for what he does. Consider yourself lucky :p:thumbup:

(sorry to get off topic)

'grats on goin' back!

Finishing a Master's, getting your Phd or starting something new?

Thanks! I dropped out of college do to medical stuff while getting my AS of applied Science in Computer Information Systems. That medical stuff is pretty much taken care of/over so I'm going to go back and either finish my CIS degree or change it. Probably start with Generals and see which outdoor related field takes my interest.

Went Camping and hiking last night and this morning. My M1 kit sure was nice to have along. We were at the mouth of Dry Creak in the Lone Peak Wilderness area here in Utah. Used my phone to call some friends and family and also used the Pen and Paper to make a shopping list.

Well DOUG Seems like you got it all sorted:thumbup:

Seems that nothing in DOUG's world can happen in TEXAS or between you and your truck with the BOB. So DOUG can clean his nails in class with 6 blades and some motrin.

I appologize for suggesting common sense gear to his greatness, Doug is the man:thumbup:

I need to rewrite the urban disaster prep portion of the CERT course I taught last night.

Don't worry guys. The other mods have the common eye on this often argumentative poster.

I don't carry much on me. I always have a knife in my pocket, usually a slippie. I have a AAA mini mag on my keychain. And that is it. I go to a smallll school. I can get to my classes in 4 min of walking, less then a min of running. So thats all I need on me.

You know what, you are absolutely right. The Gods that create emergencies and survival situations play by a strict rule book and never throw curves

I'm interested in hearing all abour your "dangerous situations" you've experienced as a student on campus as it would be 100% relevant to the discussion.

None, as I said if you read my first post, I start school next semester. Shit, people are going crazy over this! I get told I'm going to puss out if anything happens in the classroom, I defend myself and everyone starts shoving stuff down my throat...

Closed...some people just can't seem shut the hell up
