My First Custom Order..

By the way, how long does it usually take to make a custom 110? The day before yesterday I also ordered my first custom 110 - S30V, buffalo,NS, rivets. The "confirmation" e-mail said about the expected shipping day (yesterday), but still, no shipment notice, no activity on my Buck site account- just "the transaction has been approved" and "in process".

...I'd give 'em at least 5 weeks from your order date to delivery...As this is your first Buck Custom you're soon gonna own a real beauty...

At least 5 weeks? Really? Why did say about "expected shipping date- 04 June 2008?" O_o Really looking forward to getting my first 110 (and the first Buck knife)! If something like 6 months ago somebody said me that I'd like to buy a 110 Hunter, I'd laugh - I was fond of Microtech and MOD, and now I'm just loving the classic 110!:) Got tired of tactical knives......

...Do ya really expect a Custom to be put together and shipped in a couple of days?...It was a "glitch" in their software...My shipment date was June 2nd ( Monday )and I ordered it May 30th ( Friday )...

Sounds kinda risky!!!!:( I really thought I'd get my knife sooner... I'm a visitor in the USA, planning to go back home in mid-July. I really hope my knife would be ready before my leaving the USA!
So, you ordered on Friday, when do you really expect to get it? Have you gotten any shipment notice yet? I guess no:(

...If it all goes as all the other Customs have gone, I wouldn't be surprised if I got it by around July 1st or 2nd...If the wind is blowing the right way and I'm standing on the tip toes of my left foot and there are no gators in my pool for the next few weeks...it could come earlier as well...:D

Well, I really hope I'll get it before my leaving US! And after all, I'm eager to have it right now! Can't wait:)))))))))))))))) I believe the quality of Buck customs is the same I read about in different forums!:)
Was amazed when got an e-mail about "shipping yesterday" :(

...If you're leaving in mid-July I think you'll be fine and will have your Custom in your hands by then. It will be worth the wait I guarantee...:)

Oh yes, even now I can't wait:((( Just believed that e-mail and expected my 110 to be shipped yesterday O_o

Buck has a few glitches on the new website, it would ship that quick if it was a standard model. They need to adjust their shipping time for custom shop knives yet. It will be worth the wait be patient ;)

Yep, they've just replied my e-mail - building a custom takes 4-5 weeks O_o Hope I'll get it and waiting is really a horrible thing:(
I guess it's worth waiting:)

You could always contact Buck again and explain your situation....maybe they can "express" things....it's worth a try.
After all, you've got nothing to lose by asking, and Buck has fantastic customer service.

BTW, where are you heading back to?

Good luck,
Allen.

...Call 'em up and tell 'em to put your's ahead of mine aqtaket...it'll give ya a few extra days or so. If they don't believe ya tell 'em to check out this thread. Can't think of a good reason I need mine so quick anyway...Besides...I can always cut myself with what I have layin' around here now while I wait...:p

DarrylS , thanks a bunch, but I don't think that moving a turn would produce much more faster making my 110:))) I mean, I just want this knife ASAP like a child a new toy, and nothing terrible happens if I'll get it in early July:))))

allenC, I'm going back to Russia:)
I like American production knives more then Russian ones (we do have some great custom makers, but the prices are quite the same as for American customs). So, as for production knives I prefer American (very important - preferably made in USA ) ones. I was into some tactical "gadgets", like MT Troodon, Scarab, HALO, but found them TOO expensive to use. Then suddenly I looked at a classic Buck 110, liked it very much. But disliked brass bolsters and 420HC steel. I believe it's the best 420 money can buy, but I wanted something more "hi-tech":) My hobby is sharpening blades as scary as possible, I relax and meditate sharpening blades with waterstones:) Hope to resharpen my Custom Buck 110 soon (if I don't like factory grind)

Maybe you could share with us some knowledge of Russian knives......I see some on e-Bay, but, of course, I don't buy because I don't know anything about them.

Maybe there's a good one I should be buying.

If I'm ahead of you on the list you can sure tell Buck to do your knife first. I'm in no hurry.

Good luck.

Rocinante, thanks, but I really think I'll get it on time and there's no need in moving turns...
As for Russian knives, I've seen Kizlyar in these forums, they are not the best, imho, but their low price makes them rather attractive - in Russia they cost much more cheaper then in US
http://www.kizlyar.ru/products/skladn.html (there is no English version:() I don't like their steel, something like AUS6 (but for some purposes it's great - doesn't rust at all)
They used to have a custom shop, but closed it a year ago (one could choose a decent blade steel, handle materials and more)
Another nice company is Cheburkov http://www.tarpan.biz/ (there is a Google-translated version available on this site) - they also produce fixed blades and folders - the quality, imho is better than Kizlayr.
RosArms has a dealer in the USA, they make inexpensive nice fixed blades.
One of the highest price range makers is Mr.Kukin http://www.knifemaker.ru
He makes really good knives, works with different materials, like S10V etc, but his knives are too expensive for me - the average price is around $1000. But ppl who have his knives just admire them.
And there are some mid-range priced makers like Shirogorov (also no English site), average pricing is $200-300, you can choose different materials, but have to wait 2-6 months the knife to be built... I never had patience to order and wait, that's why I dont have his knives... Maybe some day I'll buy it - the quality is quite nice.
There are also some companies and custom makers, but they don't have English sites:(
You may have a look at this site http://playground.sun.com/~vasya/collection.html
The owner is Russian, his nick here is nozh2002. There are some pics of Russian knives...
And a nice Russion forum with lots of pics http://talks.guns.ru/forumtopics/5.html
You may ask a question there about a particular Russian knife, English-speaking members will help you:)

Yeah, sure:) Vasilli's site is visited a lot by Russian people, interested in knives:)
Coming back to CS 110s, has anyone here received a "new" 110 yet?
Just wondering what stamps and marks are left on the blade... Is the type of steel marked on the blade, like S30V or BG-42? Does it have a stamp "Buck Custom USA" and Paul Bos' stamp? And a very funny (for me, as a non-native English speaker) sign "designer's choice"?

...I don't think anyone has received one of the latest Customs yet but the last one I got a few months back has the steel type stamped on the blade as well as "Buck Custom" and "Designer's Choice"...Gonna be interesting to see what will be on the new blades...
