Today I joined the ranks of millions of American Citizens who utilize and uphold the second amendment to the constitution. I purchased my first gun. I bought new a Remington 870 pump action 12 gauge, they're "tactical" model of the 870 series. I will join the NRA. This feels more important than voting.

Welcome to the ranks and nice choice with the 870. I believe the second amendment was added to insure that we could keep on voting.

Just practice with it and take some safety classes if they are available. BE safe!

Sam, I alway knew that you were going to end up one of those wacko gun totin' Nazi types. Hammer it into a knife before it is too late. If you don't, the next thing you know you will move to New Hampshire and tattoo "Live Free or Die" on the back of your neck.

Nice choice! Definitely stay abreast of the issues through the NRA and grab a variety of 12ga ammo.

Nice. I picked up a 20 guage 870 a while back as a home defense gun (so the wife could shoot it). Having had two of my pistols stolen and sold a third, I'm about to purchase a new pistol (as in...probably tomorrow). I've got my eyes on a Springfield EMP 9mm.

Sam,
Many great men died in part to preserve your right to vote. Ensure that their sacrifice was a meaningful one by excercising that right,

Congraulations on getting a great New York State made Firearm. My friends in Ilion thank you!

Oh man, that same pistol in 40 S&W at the gun shack (ya know south of town on Slide) was really yankin my chain. The one with the G10 slabs was totally sweet. Nice lil CHL thang.

Look at Crossbreed holsters for some ideas as far as CHL. Past that my latest handgun is completely insane. Sign of the times perhaps.

I need a gun fix I hve not bought a new one in years. Our biggist gun show of the year is tomarrow and I am hoping to pick up a Sega 12.

I'm still a sword wielding guy at heart :D I HATE nazis:thumbdn:

Page, It was the 870 or the Mossberg 500, I looked on both barrels, saw made on Colorado or something on the Mossberg but "Made in Ilion NY" was the clincher for me for the 870 :D

Good choice, just take a safety course and practice a lot, and have fun with it. Wonder how it'd do on clay birds?

welcome to the family. :)
Great first choice. Make sure you take the time to become proficient. If you ever need it at home you don't want the mechanics of the firearm to be what you're thinking about. Oh, and save the bird shot for the birds.

I'll second the safety class, always worthwhile. There's almost always one being run by someone, whether it's hunter safety or a general firearms intro class at a local range... Some of us grew up with them and had the basic locked in early, but it still doesn't hurt. I never begrudge the safety aspects of a training program I attend.

For those guys with or shopping for pistols, if you haven't already you should check out the Milt Sparks VersaMax2. The wait time is insane, but oooh man are they nice. The kydex stuff is functional, and some is even not uncomfortable, but there's just no comparison to a VM2. There are other great holsters out there, and the VM2 doesn't fit everyone and every gun but I have them for my 1911's and my hk usp-c and have yet to find anything better for strong side iwb carry.

i have my 45acp pistol
jsut got the bedding job done on the savage and its now a .5 inch gun at 100yd

i have a plinking 22lr
but still need a shottie i am thinking 500 or 590 moss

Ugh my aching shoulder!!! I went to the ammo store and bought

#9 birdshot-Remington
#8 " "- Remington
"00" buckshot Winchester
and some Winchester "Rack Master" slugs

I shot over 100 shells in about 3 hours on a steel target. I bought all the different shells to find out what I like. The birdshot is cool for just fun gunning, nice and cheap for shooting cans and such. I like the "00" ALOT, a very devastating round and the slugs were INCREDIBLE. My target plate was an 8"x15" piece of 1/4" mild steel, birdshot just left little spots, "00" dented it and deflected the hot rollscale on the back! The slugs by far though, 1 inch round dent and dented it out 1/2"! what a kick though my shoulder is aching! The Remington shot wonderfully and I like the ghost ring sight alot it was dialed in pretty good right from the factory. I will take some time to fine tune my targeting with more slugs, the birdshot just hits whatever you point it at hehe.

Ed, I was in there when they had a 9mm. I went back to get it a while later, and a guy had put it on layaway. And the day I went back in was the day after they sold that .40 you looked at.

I just payed for a NIB off of Gun Broker. G10 grips (gonna get some Alumagrips...maybe with my logo in engraved in the handle) and night sights. Gonna have it shipped to the Gun Shack for FFL transfer. She only charges $25 for transfers. I've also had eyes on a Crossbreed holster, and that probably what I'll do for concealed carry.

Nathan, crossbreed makes good stuff - and they have excellent customer service.
on the scales for your pistol, check out the custom grips by Esmeralda - if she makes ones that will fit, her work is phenomenal!

Sam - Mossberg makes a fine shotgun, but to me you made the right choice with the 870.
One thing you may want to look into is getting a sorbathane buttpad for it. Might require shortening the stock a little, but your shoulder will thank you for many years.

Voting is how you preserve the rites that come with citizenship. Owning a firearm is just one of those rites. Free speech along with the rite to assemble is how you make your voice heard.
Get out there and vote.

Nice choice on the firearm.
