My first pass-around!!

Alright ya'll. I'm a little late, but here's the knife for the second half of the passaround.

Sorry this took so long. Some life crap popped up. You know how it goes.

OK.... first things first... this knife was a pain in my ass. I decided to use this block of Bulletwood that I had. OK. Ya'll know I don't have a lot of tools. One tool I don't have is one that will cut a block of wood in half. I had to whittle my way through with a scroll saw, which meant I had a zig-zag line, which meant nothing was ever straight again. Sucks... So you will notice there is a nice epoxy gap around the middle pin.

Second things second.... I ran out of my regular epoxy, and so I tried to use some crap I had laying around. OK. Something was funky with the hardener, and it didn't fully harden. I tried to heat cure it a little, nope.. out oozes liquid epoxy again. Sucks... you may have a little bit of epoxy work its way out.

So here's the deal. I would NEVER let someone have this knife because it's not up to standards. I think it is, however, a good one for the passaround. It will more than survive 5 people reviewing it.

So I'm going to go ahead and send it out, and see what ya'll think of it. The handles are better, but still have a ways to go. The edge is a little better.

One thing I think I did much better on is the sheath. I'm actually pretty happy with it.

So here it is:
01 steel, heat treated by yours truly
3 1/2" blade
8" Overall
Bulletwood handle
Kydex sheath

It looks like you took the constructive criticism on the handle shaping to heart and produced something that appears much more comfortable. I'll look forward to reading the upcoming reviews:thumbup:

I got the first pass around knife back today, so I thought I'd take a couple comparisons to the second one going out tomorrow.

Hmmm, well I can say that it feels great in the hand, but needs some sharpening. Distal third is pretty sharp, not so much closer to the handle.

That's the same thing Tony said about the first knife. I think I need to adjust my sharpening procedure..... Thin it out a bit back towards the handle.

I think I know what the problem is... and I think I know how to fix it.

Ya I carefully watched my stroke with my current sharpening setup. I'm lifting the spine more when I'm down near the handle, so it ends up being a more obtuse angle. That will be fixed from here on out. Thanks!

You know, the exact same thing happened on the only blade I've convexed so far. Must be a pretty common error in technique. :)

I'll tell you what. I just picked up one of those sharpening systems from JRE (it showed up this weekend). That thing is pretty neat. Much better than my mouse pad on my coffee table.

I received a package today and didn't know who it was from or what the knife was for, but I checked this passaround on a hunch: so it looks like I've got the smaller brown handled one from Andy. If the green handled one was meant to be here, it either didn't make it or is in another package.
