My friend loaded stainless in a dishwasher, and this happened…

My negative bias stems from a negative customer service experience when outfitting our son for deployment to Iraq with the Marines twenty years ago. That experience is tangent but relevant to the OP's negative experience with his Dexter knife.
There I was, trying to recommend my buddy a kitchen knife to “do battle against” (cut) “the enemy” (food) when the knives rusted “in the field” (dishwasher). He hasn’t yet called “for backup” (customer service).

Basically the same story; you can really get a sense of the “stakes” (steaks).

Dexter Russell is not responsible for what one of their customers does when they recommend not putting their product in a dishwasher.

You’d think that disclaimer would show up anywhere on the packaging, right? Had to go to their FAQ’s online to find it.

I have a friend who goes on a lot of fishing charters. He said the mates on the boats use a lot of Dexter Russel knives. These guys clean and filet piles of fish, and sharpen their knives to nubs in a year. Some of them have been saying that something changed in the Dexters that they typically buy. They feel that the steel is different. Just second hand info, maybe worth what I paid for it lol.

So my buddy got back from his trip yesterday and called Dexter Russell this morning.
I've received these notes over texts, so here's the take away:

- "it's not rust, it's staining. Take some steel wool to it."
- "we advise everyone not to put their knives in the dishwasher"
- the lady was saying the reason for not putting them in the dishwasher wasn't about the edge, but rather the plastic handles can't handle the dishwasher temps
- he was told if the steel wool doesn't work call back and let the management know he's dissatisfied.

That's not the kind of customer service I was expecting.
It's a good thing she's there to explain to my friend where he's mistaken.
He spent quite a bit in knives, so I'm going to wait and see how this plays out.

I put my 1095 knives in the dishwasher and then let them dry for a week. S’all good man.
