Unfortunately it won't, lives have been lost because folks don't know or ignore the fact. It is grounded, but it won't save your life. Protocol is to get the hell off the summit ASAP if it even hints at lightening. If you get caught in a storm you ditch all metal and hunker down as low as you can get in the rocks, preferably off the summit and hope for the best.

I was just trying to throw in a little humor as those signs were very prominent throughout your post. Very well enjoyed thread!

Where was this? On the Whitney trail??? Or just up in the High Sierra. That's a lot of trout all stacked up.

At Consultation Lake, just a little off the main trail. It was where we made our second camp.

"Beautiful" does not do justice to those views. Absolutely spectacular! Thanks so much for sharing your pictures.

WOW just WOW some of the pic are good enough to enlarge and hang on the wall. I got to get back to the high sierra.
You are one lucky dog man... I so wish i could be there too..

Brings back memories. I hiked it in one day last summer. It was a lot of fun, but very tiring!

That is amazing. Personally doing it in one day has no appeal to me. You don't have time or the energy to enjoy the scenery. But I certainly admire your effort!

Looks like a phenomenal trip...and the pics are incredible. Hope to do the same one of these days.

I used to work with a guy who said he did the whole trip in under 8 Hrs. but he regrets not taking the time to enjoy the scenery.

8 hours is far too fast to enjoy it properly. I think I took 15 hours the time I did it in one day.

Nice pics my friend. I'm somewhat disapointed that you didn't take a single picture f your waste bag.

I almost forgot..... we had to use these lovely things for out waste, AND you had to hold on to them until you got back to the trailhead. Not my favorite thing to do, but no fertilizing allowed on the trail. They are made to use with a portable toilet....a little bit trickier to use without one.

They had bathrooms when I was there 10 years ago but they were pretty nasty. At least I didn't have to carry my crap around.

Fantastic place, great pictures.

Was the height(height sickness) a big problem?

Wasn't too bad. A few of the group had bad headaches and a little vomiting. But overall it wasn't that horrible. I was one of the lucky ones and wasn't bothered by it.
